The Advocacy Centre for the Elderly is a legal clinic serving low-income seniors.

We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, the majority of whom are over 55 years of age. Directors are elected to a three-year term and are eligible for re-election to a second three-year term with a six-year term limit.

Our Board meets monthly eleven times per year, usually by Zoom video, at 6:30 p.m.. on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

We are seeking a new member of our Board of Directors to serve as our Treasurer.

The Treasurer is responsible for:

  • Oversight of the Board's financial responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that appropriate financial reports are made available to the Board;
  • Recommending and liaising with our auditors; and,
  • Being the primary signing authority for all cheques over $2,500.

We employ a full-time staff of ten lawyers, paralegals and law clerks. We employ a professional CPA to keep our books and provide monthly financial statements in QuickBooks. We have professional auditors who provide audited financial statements annually.

We have professional development training for Board members available through our clinic association, the Association of Community Legal Clinics of Ontario.

This is a vital position needed to sustain our legal work in support of low-income seniors.
