Leadership Opportunity Treasurer, Board of Directors (Volunteer Role) Aman Lara is seeking a strategic, and values-driven leader to join our volunteer Board of Directors as Treasurer. We are looking for a seasoned financial professional who shares our commitment to humanitarian action and refugee protection and can support our continued growth and impact as a registered Canadian charity.

the opportunity

We are currently recruiting for one open position on our eight-member Board of Directors in the role of Treasurer — a voting Director role with additional responsibilities as an Officer of the Board.

The ideal candidate will bring: ● A professional accounting designation

(CPA or CGA preferred) ● Experience in financial oversight,

budgeting, and risk management ● Knowledge of nonprofit financial

management and charitable reporting ● A collaborative approach and

commitment to mission-driven governance

● Fundraising experience or a willingness to support resource development efforts

● Prior nonprofit board experience is an asset, but not required

The Treasurer will chair the Finance Committee and work closely with the Executive Director and Board Chair to ensure effective financial governance, compliance, and oversight of organizational resources. They will also support the Board’s collective role in ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization — including providing guidance on fundraising strategies, when appropriate. Please note that this is an unpaid volunteer position.

director expectations For the duration of their term, the Treasurer is expected to:

● Prepare for and participate in bi-monthly board meetings

● Chair the Finance Committee and provide regular financial updates to the Board

● Support organizational compliance and stewardship of financial resources

● Engage in and support fundraising efforts, including outreach to networks and donors

● Champion Aman Lara’s mission within their professional and community networks

Time Commitment: ~5–8 hours/month

As a member of our Board of Directors, you will help govern and guide the organization, ensuring we remain accountable, strategic, and mission-aligned as we expand our work both in Canada and globally.

Core Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Mission Stewardship As a Board Member, you will contribute to shaping and reviewing Aman Lara’s strategic direction, ensuring that all initiatives remain aligned with the organization’s mission, values, and charitable purposes. Your leadership will help guide major priorities, assess emerging opportunities, and ensure that our work continues to reflect our commitment to impact and accountability.

Governance & Accountability Board Members play an active role in governance by attending quarterly board meetings and participating in committee discussions as needed. They help develop and oversee key policies, support risk management strategies, and monitor the organization’s overall performance to ensure Aman Lara upholds the highest standards of legal, ethical, and fiduciary responsibility.

Fund Development & Resource Mobilization Board Members actively support fundraising by contributing personally where possible, facilitating introductions, and engaging in outreach to prospective donors and partners. They play a key role in stewarding relationships, participating in donor engagement activities, and attending fundraising events.

Advocacy & External Relations Board Members serve as visible and trusted ambassadors of Aman Lara, helping to amplify the organization’s mission through their professional, personal, and community networks. They play an active role in building awareness, cultivating relationships, and participating in stakeholder conversations where appropriate — strengthening Aman Lara’s reach, influence, and credibility

Executive Support & Oversight Board Members play a critical role in executive oversight by partnering with the Board Chair to hire, support, and evaluate the Executive Director. They also contribute to succession planning efforts and help ensure leadership continuity — reinforcing stability and accountability as the organization grows.
