About the AACC The Airdrie Arts and Culture Council (AACC) is an independent society dedicated to nurturing and promoting arts, culture, and creative experiences in Airdrie. Through advocacy, community engagement, education, and support for local creatives, we are building a thriving and inclusive cultural landscape.

Role Summary
As Treasurer on the Board, you will play a key role in overseeing financial strategy, ensuring compliance, and safeguarding the long-term sustainability of our organization. This is a volunteer position ideal for a finance professional who values creativity, community, and the role of arts and culture in delivering meaningful impact across the community.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Oversight
â Provide Board-level leadership on financial matters, ensuring resources are aligned with mission-driven goals.
â Monitor AACC's financial position, including reviewing monthly statements, budget variances, and financial forecasts.
â Present concise financial updates to the Board and help contextualize them for members from non-financial backgrounds.
2. Budgeting and planning
â Support development of the annual operating and program budgets in collaboration with staff or fellow Board members.
â Advise on cash flow projections, fundraising targets, and long-term financial planning.
â Ensure the budget aligns with strategic priorities such as staffing costs, programming, artist fees, community access, and capital needs.
3. Regulatory compliance
â Ensure the organization meets its financial and legal obligations, including CRA reporting (e.g., T3010), charitable receipting, and provincial requirements.
â Liaise with external bookkeepers during review or audit processes. â Coordinate and lead offboarding of external bookkeepers if/when appropriate. â Assist with transitions involving financial service providers, including
onboarding/offboarding.
4. Internal controls and policy
â Promote strong internal controls and fiscal transparency.
â Help draft or update financial policies (e.g., expense approval, reserve fund use, revenue recognition).
5. Strategic contribution
â Collaborate with fellow board members to evaluate the financial implications of new artistic programs, grants, venue changes, or partnerships.
â Support decision-making on key issues such as capital investments, earned revenue models (e.g., ticketing, rentals), and risk management.
Our ideal candidate profile
Qualifications
â Understanding of fund accounting, project-based grants, and nonprofit budgeting.
â Familiarity with arts and culture funding models in Canada (e.g., Canada Council, provincial arts councils) is an asset.
Skills & Attributes
â Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both Board, and sometimes civic stakeholders.
â Proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-driven.
â Passionate about supporting artists and cultural programming through sound governance.
Board term and commitment
â Volunteer board term: Typically 2 years, renewable.
â Estimated time: 5–8 hours/week.
â Attendance at monthly board meetings, along with Board financial reporting, and initiative participation as able.
