L’Arche Comox Valley (LCV) is looking for a financially-minded individual, potentially with an accounting background, with a passion for diversity and inclusion, to serve as Treasurer on our volunteer Board of Directors. (The ideal candidate is a CA or is working towards that designation.) LCV provides support for people living with diverse abilities, through the provision of inclusive supported housing options.

About L’Arche Comox Valley

L'Arche is an international federation of non-profit organizations working to create networks of community where people with and without intellectual disabilities live and work together. L'Arche homes and programs operate according to a "community model."

L’Arche Comox Valley is organized and operated by a volunteer Board of Directors and is one of 29 L’Arche communities across Canada, operating nearly 200 homes and workplaces, and is part of a network of 145 communities in 40 countries around the world.

At L'Arche, people with disabilities, and those who assist them, live together in homes and apartments, sharing life with one another and building community as responsible adults.

L’Arche Comox Valley’s Mission is “focused on continued growth and that of the community we serve and that all persons with developmental disabilities are able to embrace life to the fullest extent of their abilities and contribute their unique gifts to society.”

LCV is a registered charity and a registered BC Society with highly motivated volunteers and staff to carry out LCV’s mission.

LCV’s Directors volunteer approximately 10 hours of their time per month on the Board, including a monthly Board meeting. Directors are appointed at LCV’s AGM in November, and must be a member of LCV. LCV has an onboarding process for new Directors which includes training and mentoring and which begins prior to the new Director joining the Board.

LCV’s Board Directors are active in advisory and governance roles surrounding LCV’s projects, special events, fundraising, and networking with funders and governments of all levels. Directors will also contribute to sub-committees and project-specific working groups.

We are looking for individuals who have a vision of a more inclusive society and who enjoy spending productive time with friendly, like-minded people and who can commit to a 3-year term on the LCV Board.

About the Role

LCV’s Treasurer chairs LCV’s Finance Committee. It is expected that the person expressing interest in the Treasurer position would fully understand accounting rules and processes as applied within a not-for-profit organization. The Treasurer, along with the Finance Committee, will be responsible for the integrity of LCV’s financial records.

LCV’s Treasurer can expect to volunteer between five to ten hours a month reviewing the bookkeeping entries, and preparing and presenting financial statements at monthly board meetings. The Treasurer works closely with the Executive Director and the bookkeeper to prepare reports for the Board and for government agencies as required.
