We are seeking a qualified individual to serve in the role of Treasurer on our Board of Directors.

Soaring Spirits Canada is a registered charity that connects widowed people with each other to build resilience in grief through an ongoing peer support community and research-based programming.

Soaring Spirits Canada supports people across the full spectrum of the widowed experience. We aim to help widowed people build resilience and re-engage fully in life after loss. We achieve this through direct service to widowed people. We provide in-person and on-demand, evidence-based programming to help widowed individuals build resilience.

We adhere to Soaring Spirits International’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Mandate and encourage Canadian applicants with all types of bodies, minds, souls, hearts, gender identities/expressions, cultural backgrounds, and postal codes to apply. Widowhood is NOT a requirement.

Successful applicants will be required to virtually attend monthly board meetings. Soaring Spirits Board Members commit at least 10 hours per month and participate in at least one board committee. The role of treasurer includes the following responsibilities:

  • Work with the bookkeeper to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Monitor income and expenditures and ensure compliance with registered charity financial regulations.
  • Prepare and present quarterly financial reports to the board.
  • Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with accounting principles.
  • Prepare annual budget and assist with event budgets as needed.
  • Complete annual charity return.
  • File HST/GST Public Service Body Rebates.
  • Monitor the cash flow of the organization.
  • Oversee and implement controls over cash receipts and disbursements
  • Pay vendors and reimbursements.
