Description

PURPOSE and SCOPE:

To provide leadership in the development and delivery of program content at Next Step. This position contributes to the overall success of service provision as defined by our major funding partners and the Board of Directors.

  1. SPECIFIC DUTIES:
    • Manage program development and delivery for Next Step:
    • Ensure that Next Step adheres to Ministry guidelines in regards to programs and accountability as detailed in the current Ministry Get SET Agreement.
    • Manage all aspects of group program delivery for Next Step, including researching and making recommendations to develop new group program offerings, facilitation of same and trend analysis of potential learner population to ensure these are timely and appropriate.
    • Manage program delivery through satellite locations including, but not limited to, Angus & Tottenham.
    • Manage group program delivery through community partners.
    • Participate in all aspects of learner relationships from initial contact of potential learners at Next Step including but not limited to needs assessments, tutor matching, training plan development and on-going revision, and progress assessments.
    • Participate in tutor relationships from initial contact of potential tutors at Next Step including but not limited to, recruitment initiatives, tutor applications, tutor recognition, and administration of tutor hours.
    • Participate in the analysis of statistical information of learners on exit of program for
      on-going evaluation of success of program offerings.
    • Participate in the development of short and long-term strategic plans around program delivery.
    • Identify and facilitate potential partnership opportunities for program development and delivery.
    • Network with other literacy organizations, locally, regionally and provincially to share
      information on new developments within the field. Participate in the local Literacy Service Providers (LSP) meetings, or other professional development opportunities.
    • Assist the Executive Director to complete paperwork for MLITSD, including but not limited to Ministry reports, Program Monitoring reports, Annual Business Plan, and in-year funding proposals.
    • Ensure confidentiality of learner and volunteer files.
    • Ensure adherence to the policies and procedures of Next Step.
  2. Instruction
    • Complete Tutor Certification and the requisite number of tutoring hours to qualify for Tutor Trainer Certification. Provide instruction both on a one-to-one and small group basis in all aspects of program offerings, including English reading and writing, Mathematics, Computer Basics and Life Skills.
    • Complete Tutor Trainer Certification and offer on-going Tutor Training annually to interested Next Step volunteers.
  3. Ministry Documentation
    • Ensure completion of registration forms.
    • Oversee entering of appropriate students into Ministry system.
    • Create training plans and ensure acceptance by students.
    • Oversee the up-date of files as needed.
    • Administer formative and summative evaluations as appropriate.
    • Oversee the completion of exits and follow-ups as needed.
    • Confirm accuracy of Ministry data entered by others.
  4. Financial Responsibilities
    • Operating under the direction of the Executive Director, participate in disbursement of funds as directed by the annual budget for Professional Resources and Resource Materials.
    • Receive training fees.
  5. Board of Directors & Committee Support
    • Provide staff support to the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Committee Chairs as required.
    • Participate in the Report of Next Step monthly training activities and any matters affecting Next Step program delivery.
    • Attend Meetings of the Board and Sub-Committees meetings as required.
  6. Public and Media Relations
    • Enhance the public profile of Next Step.
    • Interact effectively in a pleasant, professional manner with public, learners, volunteers,
      staff, and other organizations and agencies.
    • Provide Information and referral of services in person and via telephone at the Next Step offices.
    • Initiate and participate in promotional and outreach activities within the community to ensure program offerings of Next Step are well known.
    • Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with Next Step tutors, Board Members, affiliate Employment Ontario service providers, other literacy organizations and community partners.
    • Assist with the co-ordination of promotional events such as the AGM, Family Literacy Day, Spelling Bees, Alliston Potato Festival, etc.
    • Receive and respond to the public’s suggestions, problems, and complaints according to policy.
    • Act as liaison between the Board and tutor volunteers.
    • Participate in Fundraising projects and events under the direction of the Executive Director.
    • Health and Safety: take all reasonable care to ensure every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for worker protection is taken.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary degree in Education.
  • Tutor Certification and Tutor Trainer Certification an asset.
  • Teaching and facilitation experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Solid arithmetic knowledge for grades 1-10.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a collaborative work environment.
  • Familiarity with administering standardized assessment instruments and completing assessment reports an asset.
  • First aid an asset.
  • Willingness to upgrade skills as required.
