What Is the Translation and Interpretation Program (TIP)?

The Translation and Interpretation Program (TIP) works with registered, approved volunteer interpreters to provide services to newcomers with limited English proficiency. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):

What is TIP’s volunteer schedule?

  • TIP volunteers are available during RODS regular hours of operation. RODS programs and/or services are typically open from Monday–Friday, 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. On occasion, TIP volunteers may also be asked to interpret for after–hours programs.
  • TIP is on a casual, “as needed” basis. TIP volunteers don’t usually have set hours, although TIP volunteers who speak a high-demand language are often booked to do longer hours.
For instance, if you speak a language of high demand and offer a flexible schedule, you will be booked more often (2-3 hours a week). Whereas if you speak a language that is in low demand, you may not be booked as often (1-2 hours a month).

What languages are in high demand?

  • TIP provides interpretation services in over 30 languages. For a list of available or high demand languages, please get in touch with Translation and Interpretation Program Coordinator directly at TIP@rods.sk.ca
