Tenant Support Worker
St. Jude Community Homes provides supportive housing to people challenged by mental illness. The organization operates on strong principles of community development and recovery to facilitate a supportive community where individuals can live, learn and grow.
SJCH is looking for experienced applicants to join our dedicated team to set up and support a new supportive housing building located in Regent Park. The new apartments will be dedicated to people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, including families and older adults. As a member of the SJCH team you will work with a range of downtown east partners to help tenants thrive in their new home and community within an environment anchored in recovery, inclusion, dignity, empowerment and safety.
Key Job Responsibilities
- maintains responsibility for all safety procedures including consistent monitoring of all cameras, regular walk-throughs, careful monitoring of who enters the building;
- provide documentation support to daytime staff and manager;
- support with tenancy related administrative tasks such as maintaining tenancy records, drafting leases, posting building notices and support tenants with work orders
- assist with intake and on-boarding of new resident
- responsible for tenant income and asset verification
- reports any hazards, maintenance concerns, pest issues as required to the maintenance staff and adheres to all Occupational Health and Safety procedures
- report any and all critical instances to the on-call supervisor
- develop and maintain a positive, friendly and respectful relationship with all residents;
- engage residents as full collaborators in any service related tasks
- provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, de-escalation and dispute resolution
- provide understanding and compassion when residents are experiencing challenges;
- recognizing when residents are experiencing health related concerns and report to appropriate staff
- document all resident interactions using TREAT
- provide mental health support to residents as needed, including informal counselling, reviewing crisis plans and calling emergency personnel as required
- ensuring principles of dignity, independence, integration of services and equity of opportunity are followed when providing services to individuals with disabilities.
Qualification
- Completion of post-secondary education minimally with a college diploma in social services or in a related field.
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with people who have experienced trauma, homelessness and mental health challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Valid certificates in First Aid, CPR, and medication administration.
- Valid work eligibility in Canada.
