Role Purpose The Technical Project Co-Lead will help guide the technical direction and day-to-day execution of the Climate Stories Map (https://climatestories.palce, https://crc.place/climate-stories-map/) —an interactive platform that collects and visualizes real stories from communities affected by climate change around the world. This leadership role is critical for ensuring features are delivered reliably and on schedule while maintaining high code quality and architectural integrity. You will support technical planning, coordinate volunteer developers, review code and architecture decisions, and ensure our technical work aligns with the project's mission to amplify underrepresented voices and transform lived experiences into actionable climate insights.
Key Responsibilities Provide technical leadership for the Climate Stories Map development team:
• Technical Guidance: Guide and support full-stack development work (React, Python, GitHub, Azure) alongside the volunteer development team
• Team Coordination: Coordinate volunteer developers by planning tasks, reviewing progress, unblocking issues, and ensuring smooth collaboration

• Infrastructure Management: Support deployment and ongoing maintenance on Azure, ensuring platform stability, security, and scalability
• Strategic Alignment: Align technical decisions with the Climate Stories Map mission, translating project goals into clear technical priorities and actionable development tasks
Additional responsibilities include:
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to volunteer developers
• Participate in sprint planning and retrospectives to continuously improve team
processes
• Troubleshoot technical issues and guide problem-solving approaches
• Mentor junior developers and support skill development within the volunteer team
• Collaborate with project leadership to define technical roadmaps and feature
priorities
• Document technical decisions, patterns, and best practices for team reference
Required Qualifications
• Strong experience with full-stack web development, specifically React.js and Python
• Working knowledge of GitHub workflows, including pull requests, code reviews, and
issue tracking
• Experience deploying or managing applications on Azure or similar cloud platforms
(AWS, GCP)
• Proven ability to review code, guide architecture decisions, and troubleshoot complex
technical issues
• Clear communication skills and demonstrated experience supporting or leading
technical teams, especially in collaborative or volunteer environments
• Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple
priorities Nice-to-Have Qualifications
• Experience with mapping and geospatial tools (Mapbox, Leaflet, GIS platforms)
• Background in climate data, environmental projects, or storytelling platforms
• Experience working with volunteer or distributed teams in nonprofit or social impact
contexts
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies and project management tools
• Experience with database design, API architecture, and data visualization
• Passion for climate action, community empowerment, and inclusive technology

• Successful coordination and support of volunteer development team, ensuring
consistent progress on platform features
• High-quality codebase with documented architecture, clear code review standards,
and maintainable technical patterns
• Reliable platform deployment and maintenance on Azure with minimal downtime and
responsive issue resolution
• Clear technical roadmap aligned with project goals, with features delivered on schedule
• Positive volunteer developer experience, including effective mentorship, unblocking, and collaborative problem-solving
