The Peel Adult Learning Centre (PALC) is a non-profit community organization in the Region of Peel. We provide adult learning opportunities to a diverse group of individuals from our community, and throughout the Region. We have been successfully delivering academic upgrading programs for over 30 years.

We currently seek an enthusiastic and flexible Academic Upgrading Supply Instructor to join our team. This is a casual, on-call, in-person position to cover sick days, vacation days, and other short-term absences of regular instructors at our Brampton and Mississauga locations.

As an Academic Upgrading Supply Instructor, you will support adult students in developing essential skills in communication, math, and digital technology. You will step into established classrooms and provide continuity of instruction while maintaining a respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. Our program prepares adult learners for the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC), college mature student tests, apprenticeship, and employment. Our program is delivered in a group setting and tailored to meet individual learning needs.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engaging, interactive lessons in critical reading and writing, math, and digital technology
  • Teach all components of the CAEC, along with essential skills needed for success in further education and employment
  • Support learners in developing Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general digital literacy
  • Follow existing lesson plans and adapt instruction to meet individual learner needs
  • Foster a respectful and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and confidence
  • Understand and respond to the challenges adult learners may face, including those affecting well-being and success
  • Assess learner work and provide timely feedback
  • Conduct ongoing assessments, monitor progress, and maintain accurate student records
  • Collaborate with PALC staff to ensure smooth program delivery during instructor absences

Required Experience and Skills:

  • University Degree in a related discipline
  • Valid Ontario Teaching Certificate (OTC) and OR Master of Education (M.Ed.) (preferred)
  • Experience teaching adults in academic upgrading, adult education, or similar setting
  • Confidence teaching both communications and math
  • Strong digital skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and in an accessible manner
  • Patient, supportive, and compassionate approach when working with diverse adult students
  • Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and respectful learning environment that upholds the dignity of all students
  • Understanding of the barriers adult students may face and the ability to respond in a non-judgmental and encouraging way
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt quickly in a supply role
  • Previous experience in a not-for-profit or community-based setting (preferred)
  • Must be able to work at either location and have access to a reliable vehicle

Hours of Work:

  • Casual/Occasional/On-call
  • Hours vary based on instructor absences
  • Typical program hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Locations:

  • Brampton - 3 Conestoga Drive, Suite 100, Brampton, ON.
  • Mississauga – 151 Superior Blvd, Suites 19-23, Mississauga, ON.

Employment Type: Permanent/Full-time. This is an in-person position. Remote or hybrid work is not available.

Pay Rate: $30/hr
