We are actively hiring Supervisor-Housing Programs to provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of Elizabeth Fry Toronto’s transitional and supportive housing services. This position supervises staff and coordinates key aspects of housing intake, tenancy management, and rent administration. The Supervisor plays a vital role in ensuring program quality, legal compliance, and successful housing outcomes for criminalized women and gender-diverse individuals.
This role is ideal for someone who brings both housing experience and a commitment to social justice, understands the complexities of landlord-tenant relations, and can lead a team in a supportive, empowering way.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide supervision, coaching, scheduling, and performance support to housing staff, students, and volunteers
- Coordinate housing intake, eligibility screening, waitlists, and move-in processes through Coordinated Access and other referral streams
- Oversee rent-geared-to-income calculations, rent supplements, income verification, and annual rent reviews
- Monitor rent collection, arrears, and eviction prevention efforts in collaboration with finance and management
- Ensure compliance with the Residential Tenancies Act, including lease management, notices, and legal documentation
- Respond to tenancy issues, mediate disputes, and participate in eviction proceedings as required
- Coordinate unit readiness, move-ins, move-outs, and inspections in collaboration with Facilities and property management
- Address building, health, and safety concerns, including pest control, fire safety, and hoarding risks
- Educate tenants on rights, responsibilities, and building safety procedures
- Maintain accurate housing, tenancy, financial, and incident documentation
- Respond to client-related incidents and complete timely incident and risk reports
- Liaise with internal and external partners, including Coordinated Access, OW/ODSP, landlords, legal supports, and property management
- Support staff onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development
- Collaborate with the Manager of Housing Services to support program quality, compliance, and continuous improvement
- Supervise and support housing staff, ensuring client-centred, trauma-informed practices
- Coordinate intake, eligibility screening, and move-in processes for new tenants
- Maintain updated waitlists and referral tracking
- Oversee rent-geared-to-income calculations and subsidy administration
- Monitor and follow up on rent arrears and eviction prevention
- Educate tenants on their rights and responsibilities under the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA)
- Coordinate lease signings, move-outs, and unit inspections in collaboration with the Facilities team
- Respond to tenancy issues and support legal procedures, including preparation of documentation
- Liaise with internal and external partners (Coordinated Access, landlords, OW/ODSP, legal support)
- Ensure health and safety concerns are addressed, including pest control and fire safety procedures
- Participate in program development, training, and reporting as needed
Qualifications
- Education: Post-secondary education in Housing, Social Work, Community Services, or a related field
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in housing or tenancy support, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA), Housing Services Act, and related legislation.
- Commitment: Trauma-informed, feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression, and harm reduction practices.
- Understanding: Familiarity with rent-geared-to-income systems and housing subsidies and experience of working with women and gender-diverse people impacted by systemic marginalization or criminalization
- Communication: Excellent communication, mediation, organizational, and crisis intervention skills
- Skills: Strong documentation and administrative capabilities
- Technical: Experience with client databases and Microsoft 365
- Travel: Ability to travel between offices and community locations.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset
Working Conditions
This is a full-time, in-person role with travel between housing sites as required.
Some evening or weekend hours may be required for emergencies or staff coverage
