
Summer Research Assistant Volunteer
Are you looking for a summer volunteer position where you can significantly impact the local community? Food Banks Mississauga is seeking volunteers to conduct its Annual Food Bank Visitor Survey in the months of June and July 2026. This survey informs our programs and advocacy efforts to realize a food secure Mississauga.
Location:
- On-site and remote options available.
Length of appointment:
- Starting June 1st to July 31st.
- Training to begin at the end of May.
- 3 to 6 hours a week.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct telephone interviews with food bank visitors using a structured questionnaire.
- Opportunity to visit food banks across Mississauga to conduct in-person interviews.
- Provide regular progress updates to your designated Food Bank’s Mississauga contact person.
Qualifications:
- Must be 19+ years of age.
- Prior experience with data collection is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of a second language is an asset (Arabic/Hindi/Urdu/Ukrainian/Punjabi/Spanish/Mandarin).
- Good note-taking skills.
- Flexible and versatile in a changing work environment.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
Support from Food Banks Mississauga:
- Training on data collection will be provided.
- Calling lists will be provided to conduct the survey.
- Access to an e-calling platform to make phone calls.
- No devices will be provided. You will be required to use your own phone/laptop/tablet to complete surveys.
- On-site survey schedules will be arranged by Food Banks Mississauga.
- Any travel arrangements/reimbursements will not be provided.
- A letter/certificate highlighting your contributions to this project will be provided.

- The program is managed by a Registered Dietitian. Upon successful completion of your volunteer term a letter of reference can be requested.
