About The Humane Choices Foundation

The Humane Choices Foundation is a 100% volunteer-driven Canadian nonprofit based in Toronto, Ontario. Our mission is to reduce the suffering of farm animals, protect our oceans from exploitation, and address the environmental harm caused by industrial animal agriculture — through education, advocacy, and meaningful community action.

We are not a single-issue organization. Our work sits at the intersection of animal welfare, ocean protection, environmental justice, public health, and food systems policy. We educate. We advocate. We hold powerful institutions accountable. And we support the farmers and communities ready to do things differently.

Industrial animal agriculture is not just an animal welfare problem. It is a climate problem, a public health problem, a food security problem, and a policy problem — and we address it on every front.

About This Role

The Humane Choices Campus Ambassador Program is building a national network of student leaders who turn their campuses into hubs for food systems education, animal welfare awareness, and environmental advocacy.

This is not a passive volunteer role. Ambassadors are the public face of the Foundation on their campus. You will host events, run campaigns, build relationships with campus partners, and report your impact back to our External Relations team each semester.

In return, you get real advocacy experience, a verified credential, mentorship from food systems and environmental professionals-plus a direct line into Ontario's professional NGO and environmental network.

If you want to do something meaningful with your time on campus and build a portfolio of real-world impact, this is it!

What You Will Do

  • Host or co-host at least one public campus event per semester — documentary screening, food tasting, panel discussion, educational workshop or general awareness.
  • Run at least one social media awareness campaign per semester on behalf of the Foundation
  • Connect with at least one campus partner each semester — sustainability office, student union, faculty member, or aligned club
  • Act as the primary liaison between the Foundation and your campus community
  • Submit a mid-semester check-in and an end-of-semester impact report to the External Relations Manager on what's been accomplished
  • Represent the Foundation with professionalism, accuracy, and compassion in all public-facing activities

What You Will Receive

  • Official Humane Choices Campus Ambassador title and digital credential
  • Comprehensive digital toolkit — data-driven briefings, campaign templates, event planning guides, social media assets, and brand materials
  • Direct mentorship from the External Relations Manager
  • Named recognition on the Foundation's website and social channels
  • Reference letter from Foundation leadership upon successful completion of one full semester
  • Access to the Foundation's growing national ambassador network
  • Invitation to annual Humane Choices Virtual Student Summit (Year 1 goal)
  • Potential podcast guest appearances as the program develops further

Who We Are Looking For

You do not need to be a lifelong animal rights activist. You need to be curious, organized, and genuinely motivated to create change. The best candidates are students already engaged in sustainability, food policy, environmental science, animal science, public health, or social justice — and who want a meaningful way to apply that interest beyond the classroom.

You are a strong fit if you:

  • Are currently enrolled at a Canadian university or college with at least one full academic year remaining
  • Have a demonstrated interest in food systems, sustainability, farming, animal welfare, ocean sustainability or environmental advocacy
  • Are organized, reliable, and comfortable communicating professionally
  • Can commit 3–5 hours per month during active campaign periods
  • Are comfortable hosting or co-hosting campus awareness events
  • Want real advocacy experience that goes beyond club membership

Bonus if you have:

  • Previous experience in student government, clubs, or advocacy campaigns
  • Social media content creation or event planning experience
  • Background in agriculture, veterinary science, environmental studies, or public health
  • Bilingual ability in French and English
  • Existing connections to your campus sustainability office, student union, or relevant faculty

Our Values

Everything we do is guided by Compassion, Honesty, Courage, Collaboration, Hope, and Transparency. We expect our ambassadors to embody these values in how they show up on campus and how they represent the Foundation publicly.

How to Apply

Complete the application through this posting. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a 20-minute introductory call with our External Relations Manager.

We welcome applications from students at universities and colleges across Canada, and we are also open to engaging students from higher education institutions around the world.
