Story Collecting Intern/Co-op Placement

community? Food Banks Mississauga’s vision is a Mississauga where everyone is food secure. Our
mission is to lead our agency network to realize a food-secure Mississauga by providing and
promoting access to healthy and appropriate food.
Job Purpose
â Put your theoretical knowledge in journalism into action in a busy non-profit. Use the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced non-profit professionals.
â Conduct and transcribe interviews with food bank visitors to support in marketing and fundraising efforts.
Key Performance Areas
Conduct and Transcribe Interviews â Source food bank visitor stories to use in organizational marketing and fundraising
materials by conducting interviews at Food Banks Mississauga, our agency members, and over the phone.
â Capture and edit individual portraits of interview subjects to accompany food bank visitor stories in digital and print marketing and/or fundraising materials and on social media.
â Approach each interview with empathy and sensitivity and practice active listening.
â Transcribe interview recordings and ensure all files are appropriately edited, sorted, and logged on Google Drive.
â Track the use of images and stories used in promotional and campaign materials and manage overall stories and waivers library.
Education and Experience
â Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program for journalism or similar.
Skills, Competencies and Qualities
â Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
â Excellent interview skills in person and over the phone (active listening, asking questions to further conversation, approach with empathy and sensitivity).
â Ability to pay attention to detail, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
â Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
â Experience with photography and videography is an asset.
â Passionate and energized about social justice, community involvement, or similar causes.
â Flexible team player with versatile skills - you’re highly motivated, self-directed, a problem-solver, and enjoy variety in your work.
â Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality at all times.
â Strong MS Office or G Suite skills (all programs) - we are a cloud-based paperless environment.
â Valid driver's license with access to your own vehicle is an asset.
Mandatory Qualifications
To be eligible, applicants must:
â Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program for journalism or similar. â Ability to work in person in Mississauga.
Reports to: Marketing Specialist
Working Hours: To be determined as per student requirements. Office hours are as follows:
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am - 5 pm
Wednesday from 9 am - 8 pm
Friday 9 am - 1pm
