Position Overview:

  • The Stewardship Officer fosters positive long-term donor relationships that are critical to Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF). In collaboration with the Director of Development (DoD), the Stewardship Officer is responsible for the strategy, design, implementation, and coordination of a comprehensive donor relations and stewardship program. As part of the Development team, they help to build a culture of gratitude, inspiration, and accountability by stewarding donors and by providing strategies and plans, meaningful recognition programs, impactful reports/communications, and engaging donor experiences.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Builds, develops, and maintains long-term relationships with donors.
  • Prepares naming proposal documents for approval by the Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) Board.
  • Responsible for donor recognition systems (e.g., donor wall), including maintenance and updates.
  • Prepares naming agreements for donors, ensures appropriate signatures are obtained, and documentation is properly stored.
  • Coordinates donor experience, including tracking stewardship activities and identifying contact touchpoints with key donors.
  • Creates and implements stewardship and recognition programs to recognize and thank donors.
  • Plans and executes events to engage donors, such as tours and receptions.
  • Prepares and delivers reports on stewardship impact and fund management.
  • Responds to donor inquiries about their gifts and acknowledgements.
  • Writes and sends letters of thanks, gift acknowledgements, and other communications.
    • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree or College diploma, preferably in Marketing, Business, Communications, or Public Relations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a fundraising organization with exposure to donor stewardship, event planning, and recognition best practices.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of donor relations and experience working with external stakeholders.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with CRM databases (i.e., Bloomerang, Raisers Edge, or others).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Outstanding organizational, time management, and customer service skills.
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with prospects/donors in fundraising, as well as working with volunteers.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities effectively and thrive under pressure.
