The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) is a national non-profit organization working to create an environment where girls, women, and gender-diverse individuals in Canada can pursue their interests, education, and careers in STEM without barriers. We provide mentorship, leadership development, and outreach programs that encourage participation and excellence in STEM. Through advocacy and partnerships, we work to remove systemic barriers, build inclusive networks, and support long-term career advancement in STEM fields.
Position Overview
We are seeking a STEM Pathways Coordinator to actively connect STEM talent with industry partners and employment opportunities. This role is responsible for developing and managing employer relationships, supporting talent transitions from education into the workforce, and monitoring the effectiveness of employment-focused STEM programs. The Coordinator will also identify and document barriers faced by women in STEM employment, contributing to data-informed improvements and employer engagement strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Employer Engagement: Proactively identify, reach out to, and build relationships with companies and organizations that are actively hiring women in STEM fields.
- Opportunity Development: Work directly with employers to identify job, internship, and mentorship opportunities for program participants.
- Networking: Represent the project at career fairs, industry events, and networking functions to expand the employer network.
- Participant Matching: Facilitate connections between program participants and employers, ensuring a good fit between candidates' skills and employers' needs.
- Data Management: Maintain a database of employer contacts, job opportunities, and participant placements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the research team to gather data on job placement outcomes and employer feedback.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Post-secondary diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline, education, career development, or a related field; a STEM background or demonstrated experience working within STEM environments is strongly preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience in a role involving business development, corporate relations, or career services, preferably within the STEM sector.
- Networking Skills: Strong ability to build and nurture professional relationships.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present effectively to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge: A solid understanding of the STEM industry and current labor market trends.
- Organizational Skills: Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple employer relationships simultaneously.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience using workplace software and platforms such as Asana, Google Workspace, video conferencing tools, job board platforms, and learning management systems.
- Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency is considered an asset.
- Event Engagement: Experience integrating industry partners and employer leads into organizational or community-based events.
Other Details
- Location: Remote (Candidate MUST be within Canada)
- Schedule: Full-time employment, 35 hours per week
- Compensation: $33 to $36 per hour plus benefits
