About SCWIST

The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) is a national non-profit organization working to create an environment where girls, women, and gender-diverse individuals in Canada can pursue their interests, education, and careers in STEM without barriers. Our mission is grounded in values of empowerment, inclusion, inspiration, connection, and sustainability. We provide mentorship, leadership development, and outreach programs that encourage participation and excellence in STEM. Through advocacy and partnerships, we work to remove systemic barriers, build inclusive networks, and support long-term career advancement in STEM fields.

Position Overview

SCWIST is a mission-driven organization dedicated to championing the next generation of diverse STEM leaders across Canada - particularly those historically underrepresented in STEM - to pursue their futures in STEM through transformative STEM learning opportunities, skills building, mentorship, and hands-on programming.

The STEM Education Specialist will play a vital role in preparing youth for these opportunities. The ideal candidate is a passionate STEM professional with a strong commitment to youth engagement and a proven ability to inspire, support, and guide young people as they navigate STEM pathways and prepare to drive innovation and economic growth in Canada.

We are seeking a passionate and innovative STEM Education Specialist to lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of high-impact STEM education and mentorship for youth across Canada. The ideal candidate is a creative educator with a strong background in STEM and demonstrated experience designing engaging learning experiences, agile and responsive mentorship skills, and a commitment to equity and inclusion in STEM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver engaging STEM education content, curriculum, workshops, and hands-on learning experiences for youth across Canada.
  • Provide responsive, youth-centered mentorship that adapts to the unique needs, goals, and learning styles of each mentee. Offer guidance, encouragement, and STEM pathway exploration that builds confidence, strengthens skills, and supports future-ready mindsets. Work alongside mentees to co-develop relevant skills and create STEM projects that align with advanced STEM sector career pathways, national policy priorities, and systems-level opportunities for impact.
  • Create inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments that reflect SCWIST’s commitment to equity, representation, and accessible opportunities in STEM.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of curricula, educational resources, and program materials, ensuring content is current, engaging, and aligned with youth needs and emerging STEM fields.
  • Evaluate program outcomes, analyze participant feedback and engagement data, and contribute recommendations for program enhancement and innovation.
  • Coordinate program logistics, including scheduling workshops, preparing materials, communicating with educators and community partners, and ensuring smooth delivery across virtual and in-person settings.
  • Represent SCWIST at outreach events, community engagements, and meetings to promote programs and build meaningful connections that expand youth opportunities in STEM.

As you will be working with high school students across Canada, this position requires flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for virtual meetings. Some travel may be required as needed regionally or nationally.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in a STEM field required.
  • 3+ years of experience designing STEM education content and delivering STEM education programs for youth.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive education.
  • Proven experience leading or advising the development of STEM educational materials or curriculum.
  • Exceptional project management, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills, including strong public-speaking and presentation abilities.
  • Strong understanding of Agile project management principles, including contributions to evaluation frameworks, performance indicators, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to design inclusive, experiential, and inquiry-based learning materials and environments.
  • Comfortable using digital tools, virtual learning platforms, and emerging technologies to support program delivery.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and relationship-building skills.

Desired Assets

  • Knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing and culturally responsive pedagogical approaches.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or research organization, especially those focused on STEM, education, or accessibility.
  • Bilingual in English and French.
  • Experience with data collection, evaluation tools, or curriculum development frameworks.
  • Familiarity with collaborative project management and organizational systems such as Asana, VolunteerHub, Circle, and Google Workspace.
