Luke’s Place is an award-winning centre of excellence in family law support for women who have been subjected to intimate partner violence. We provide legal support services and summary legal services to hundreds of women and their children across Ontario every year and share our expertise with thousands of service providers.
Luke’s Place conducts research to understand the impact of legal and related systems and processes on women’s lives. We engage in advocacy to share these findings and improve these systems and processes. Position Overview
Luke’s Place is seeking a Staff Lawyer with a minimum of 3+ years’ experience as a practising family law lawyer, to assist in expanding the organization’s capacity to deliver limited scope legal services to survivors of intimate partner violence, create resources and training content, and deliver training on intimate partner violence and family law as part of its Legal Services and Knowledge Mobilization initiatives. This position requires an on-site presence at our Oshawa office and Durham Region satellite offices.

Responsibilities Overview
- Legal Services
- deliver limited scope family law legal services
- mentor and support students, support workers and volunteers
- support and build relationships with community partners and justice sector professionals
- Knowledge Mobilization
- support the creation, updates to, and delivery of virtual and in-person training for family court support workers, service providers, lawyers and volunteers on issues of family law and intimate partner violence
- create resources and training content
- support and participate in advocacy initiatives
- complete legal research and writing, both formal (papers) and informal (e.g. blog posts)
Qualifications and Requirements
- minimum 3+ years’ experience as a practising family law lawyer, or 2 years' family law combined with other relevant experience
- LawPro insured
- familiarity with Ontario family law legislation and case law
- demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of intimate partner violence
- knowledge and commitment to a feminist, trauma-informed, gender-based, and intersectional analysis framework, and anti-oppression values
- intermediate to advanced level proficiency in Microsoft 365/SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat, internet-based system navigation and online resources, and comfortable using a variety of audio/visual technologies
- familiarity with JSO/OCPP Filing Portals, Case Centre, DivorceMate and WestLaw
