Special Event Volunteer: Darkness Into Light

Volunteer for Darkness Into Light 2026 Walk with us from darkness into light—and help make this powerful community event possible.

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, communities across the world will gather before sunrise for Darkness Into Light, a 5 km walk that honours hope, remembers those lost to suicide, and supports those who may be struggling.

Here in British Columbia, the walk supports the vital work of the Crisis Centre of BC—ensuring compassionate, life-saving support is available 24/7 for anyone in need.

To bring this event to life, the Darkness Into Light Local Organizing Committee is looking for dedicated volunteers to support the morning of the walk.

Volunteer Roles

Safety Volunteers

Be a visible, welcoming presence along the walk route.

• Help guide participants and keep the route clear and safe
• Offer directions and answer basic questions
• Keep an eye out for any concerns and communicate with event organizers
• Support a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants

Set-Up Volunteers

Help create a warm and organized start (and finish) to the walk.

• Assist with early morning event set-up
• Support participant check-in and t-shirt distribution
• Help prepare and serve tea and coffee after the walk
• Contribute to a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere

• Volunteer Arrival Time: (Walk begins at approximately 4:15 AM)
• Location: Burnaby Lake Rugby Club

Volunteer roles for Darkness Into Light are coordinated and managed solely by the Local Organizing Committee.

• Volunteers are not volunteers of the Crisis Centre of BC
• The Crisis Centre of BC does not recruit, manage, or oversee event volunteers
• The Crisis Centre of BC has no obligation or responsibility to event volunteers
• Contact information collected through the sign-up form is managed by the Local

Organizing Committee, who will follow up directly with volunteers
