Position: Social worker Permanent Full Time

About Across Boundaries:

Across Boundaries is a mental health center that provides a range of mental health and addictions support and

services to individuals from racialized and Black communities in the Greater Toronto Area. We have a holistic approach

to mental health care and operate within an anti-racism/anti-oppression and resisting anti-Black racism frameworks.

These frameworks focus on providing opportunities to respond to systemic barriers, advocate for the inclusion of

traditionally and historically silenced voices at decision-making tables, and strive for change at individual,

organizational and systemic levels.

Job Summary:

The Social Worker will report directly to the Program Manager. They will work collaboratively with various teams to provide prompt and appropriate access to services for racialized individuals from the community who are experiencing mental health and addictions issues. The worker will provide both intensive and non-intensive services to clients based on their needs and will have a caseload of up to 20 to 25 program participants. The Social Worker will be expected to work directly in the community using the agency van for outreach and support to community members. Normal Hours for full-time employees consist of five (5) shifts or eight (8) hours per day, Monday to Friday, and Saturdays on a rotating basis, inclusive of a thirty (30) minutes unpaid lunch break (entitled under the ESA) and an additional two (fifteen (15) minute unpaid rest breaks. Normal hours of work will generally be scheduled between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. Employees may be requested, but not required, to work some Sundays.

Qualifications & Responsibilities:


• Master’s degree in social work from a recognized university or equivalent.


• Knowledge of holistic, anti-racism/anti-oppression and resisting anti-Black racism frameworks as guiding

principles for assessing and developing treatment plans for clients.


• Supervised clinical training.


• Practical experience in the use of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

and able to provide psychotherapeutic assessments and structured counseling to individuals presenting with a

wide range of mental health conditions.


• Clinical competence to provide structured counseling in the areas of trauma, depression, anxiety, grief/loss,

and/or addictions.


• Experience with case management an asset.


• Demonstrated ability to produce detailed, high-quality assessment and treatment reports and clinical

documentation.


• Able to communicate and work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment and willingness to accept

clinical direction.


• Familiarity with the Ontario Mental Health Act and Mental Health reform.


• Proficiency in assessment, psychotherapy, and psychosocial counselling techniques for working with

individuals, groups, and communities.


• Demonstrated skill and competence in establishing supportive, trusting relationships with persons living with

mental health and addictions issues.


• Familiarity with signs and symptoms of trauma, able to respond appropriately in making referrals and helping

clients manage these symptoms.


• Experience working with clients with a concurrent disorder and those living in unstable housing situations or

homelessness.


• Demonstrated ability to work independently, cooperatively, and constructively within a multidisciplinary team

environment.

• Ability to manage and adapt positively to an ever-changing health care/work environment.


• Knowledge of trends and issues in the mental health and addictions sectors.


• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings

and weekends if needed.


• Knowledge of the Ontario Mental Health Act, the Substitute Decisions Act, the Health Care


• Consent Act and PHIPPA requirements.


• Lived experience in racialization /racism and from the LGBTQ++ Communities.


• Excellent computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook).


• Excellent oral and written skills.


• Second language skills in one or more of the following: African languages, Amharic, Arabic, Caribbean dialects,

Chinese, Dari, Farsi, Ghanaian, Hindi, Korean, Malayalam, Nepali, Pashto, Patois, Punjabi, Sinhalese, Somali,

Spanish, Tagalog, Tibetan, Tamil, Twi, Urdu, Vietnamese


• A valid holder of G license to drive a high roof, extended Ford Transit van.


• Clean driving record with minimum 3 years of insured driving experience


• Other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $65,010.16 to $66,040.46 per annum (pro-rated)

This is a Bargaining Unit Position
