
Social Researcher (Data Analysis Focus) – Three Positions

The CanAfro Research Institute is dedicated to advancing research, advocacy, and policy initiatives that support African, Caribbean and Black-identifying communities and other underrepresented communities in Canada and beyond. Our work focuses on equity, social justice, and community empowerment through evidence-based research, public education, systems change and mentorship.
Role Overview:
We are seeking three passionate and detail-oriented Volunteer Social Researchers with strong data analysis skills to support our mission. The focus of these research projects will be on issues affecting African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) communities in Canada. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in social science research who are eager to apply quantitative and/or qualitative data skills to projects addressing systemic barriers.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct social science research (secondary and/or primary data analysis) on topics impacting ACB communities to produce strong research reports.
Analyze data sets to identify trends, disparities, and insights relevant to the ACB community in Canada.
Synthesize findings into clear, evidence-based research reports and policy briefs.
Write concise summaries or blog articles translating data insights for public audiences.
Ensure accuracy by fact-checking and citing reputable sources.
Collaborate with the team to align research with organizational goals.
Qualifications:
Strong data analysis skills (experience with Excel, SPSS, R, Python, NVivo, or other statistical/qualitative analysis tools).
Background in social science research (academic or policy research experience preferred).
Excellent writing and synthesis skills (writing samples will be requested).
Familiarity with issues affecting African, Caribbean, and Black communities in Canada, including anti-racism, immigration, and social justice.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
(Preferred) Background or coursework in social sciences, public policy, data science, African/Black diaspora studies, or related fields.
