The Social Media Coordinator (volunteer) supports the Director of Communications in the execution of UNACTO’s communication plan and the achievement of UNACTO’s annual communications objectives. They report to the Director of Communications.

Work is done remotely with scheduled Zoom meetings.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Planning, strategizing and executing the monthly social media calendar—creating engaging content that reflects UNACTO’s brand and tone
  • Exploring and utilizing existing and new tools on social media platforms to maximize results and drive traffic to UNACTO’s website
  • Sharing ideas for building and executing UNACTO’s social media strategy through a solid understanding of relevant social media trends in content creation
  • Monitoring analytics across social media platforms to provide feedback to the impact analytics and executive teams
  • Other relevant duties as required

Desired Skills

  • A genuine interest in the United Nations mission and SDGs
  • A post-secondary diploma in journalism, communications, marketing or a related field (in progress or completed), or an equivalent combination of academic and professional experience
  • At least a year of professional experience in social media coordination
  • Professional understanding of social media platforms—posting, monitoring, engaging and scheduling campaigns for Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong creative vision
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, organizational skills and knowledge of branding
  • Familiarity with Buffer, MailChimp, Eventbrite, the Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Trello, Slack and Zoom
  • Some video editing and photography experience is desirable
  • Excellent research skills and experience with synthesizing information into accessible forms
  • Exceptional written and oral communication and a passion for storytelling and creating compelling content
  • An ability to work independently with little or no daily supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, flexible, team-oriented and responsive attitude to open communication
  • Time management skills—prioritizing, scheduling, adapting—and a commitment to deadlines
