About STEPS Public Art

STEPS Public Art is a Canadian charity and social enterprise that transforms public spaces through art, storytelling, and engagement. We work nationally with artists, community partners, and cross-sector collaborators to co-create welcoming, inclusive public spaces that foster belonging and social connection.

We offer services in public art management, cultural planning, artist capacity building, and more, all while supporting equity-deserving artists and communities across Canada.

About the Role

Are you an outgoing, self-motivated communicator who loves talking to people and isn’t afraid to pick up the phone?

We’re looking for a Social Enterprise Lead Developer to support the growth of our public art projects by identifying and cultivating prospective client and partner leads. This is a fast-paced role that involves using our lead generation tools, connecting with contacts across sectors (public, private, non-profit), and helping move prospects from cold lead to booked meeting.

What you’ll do:

  • Use established lead generation platforms and research criteria to identify new project and partnership leads across Canada.
  • Initiate outbound outreach via phone, email, LinkedIn, and other digital tools.
  • Record and track interactions in our Salesforce CRM.
  • Support booking of introductory meetings for senior team members.
  • Collaborate with the Communications and Service team on targeted outreach campaigns.
  • Hit lead development and meeting booking targets (incentive program available).
  • Act as a warm, professional ambassador for STEPS’ mission and services.

What We're Looking For

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • You are not shy to talk to new people, especially on the phone, via email, or over social media.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proven experience in sales, outreach, client services, fundraising, or similar roles.
  • Comfort using lead search engines, CRMs, and digital communication tools.
  • Familiarity with Canadian arts, culture, nonprofit, or municipal sectors is an asset.
  • If you are interested in a remote position, you have a quiet, professional home workspace with reliable internet and phone setup.

Ideal Candidates Will Also Have:

  • A passion for the arts, public engagement, or placemaking.
  • A background in business development, customer service, or community organizing.
  • A track record of hitting or exceeding performance targets.
  • Experience working with Salesforce or similar CRMs is a plus.

Role Details

  • Hours: 15 hours per week. Candidates must be able to work within Tuesday - Thursday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM Eastern Time (ET).
  • Remote: Work from anywhere in Canada with access to reliable home internet, a personal computer, a telephone and a quiet home workspace.
  • Compensation: $20/hr + $200 weekly performance-based incentives (weekly pay: $300 - $500)
  • Term: Starts January 6, 2026; 5-month contract with potential for renewal based on performance and funding applications currently under review.
  • Application Deadline: Tuesday, December 9, 2025 — but we’re reviewing applications on a rolling basis, so don’t wait to apply!

How to Apply:

Candidates should submit an application via this online portal. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for pre-screening that will include recording a voicemail for a sample lead before participating in a possible interview, which will take place over video conferencing. Applications will not be accepted via email.

STEPS is committed to equity. We welcome applications from equity-deserving communities, including Indigenous, Black, racialized, disabled, 2SLGBTQ+, and newcomer individuals. If you require accommodations in the application process, please email us at operations@stepspublicart.org
