Skate the Dream Volunteer

Skate the Dream offers an opportunity for young people facing barriers to experience skating and hockey for the first time, to develop physical literacy skills, as well as the confidence, competence, and motivation to make healthy, active choices. On Saturday mornings from 8:15AM to 12:00 PM, we offer four one-hour Skate the Dream sessions of programming for children ages 4 to Grade 8 (12 or 13 years of age). This includes a Skate the Dream “Beginner”, “Intermediate”, “Girls Only”, and “Hockey” program.

Volunteers Currently Needed for On-Ice Support:

• Tasks include engaging with members, cleaning and passing out skating/hockey equipment, setting up/assisting with activities, and on-ice instruction
• Strong skating abilities
• Hockey knowledge is preferred
• Volunteer schedule and location:
  1. Pat Quinn Parkdale Arena (1770 Main St E, Hamilton, ON L8H 7R5)

○ Saturday mornings from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM (or partial availability)

○ Weekly during the fall (October 17th to December 12th) and winter (January 4thMarch 12th)

• Tasks include engaging with members, cleaning and passing out skating/hockey equipment, and setting up/assisting members with their equipment
• Skating and hockey knowledge

• Provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (for volunteers 18+ years old) through your municipality (Hamilton/Halton), and
• Consent to abide by BGC Hamilton-Halton’s volunteer policies and procedures (to be sent for review after VSC is submitted).
