About the Organization

Julliette’s Place is a feminist, trauma-informed organization that provides safe accommodation and comprehensive supports to women and their dependents escaping intimate partner violence. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the organization delivers crisis response, case management, and advocacy services to support survivors in achieving safety and long-term stability.

Position Summary

The Shelter Manager oversees the day-to-day functioning of the shelter, supervises program staff, placement students, and volunteers, and ensures services are delivered in a client-centered and high-quality manner. This role promotes trauma-informed practices, contributes to organizational initiatives, and demonstrates the organization’s values in all areas of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and assess staff, students, and volunteers to support a respectful and effective team environment.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant federal and provincial legislation, organizational policies, collective agreements, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Coach and support direct reports through mentorship and regular feedback to enhance performance and professional development.
  • Participate in performance evaluation processes aligned with individual, team, and organizational goals.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and oversee departmental expenditures, ensuring responsible use of resources.
  • Act as a representative of the shelter on external committees to promote awareness and inform best practices.
  • Contribute qualitative and quantitative information to funding applications and reporting requirements.
  • Take part in fundraising initiatives and community engagement activities to strengthen partnerships and organizational visibility.
  • Prepare and submit departmental reports that track outcomes, identify trends, and support informed decision-making.
  • Participate in organizational strategic planning and convert strategic goals into operational plans within the department.
  • Identify potential risks at the departmental and organizational level and implement strategies to reduce or manage them.
  • Attend and contribute to management, board, and committee meetings, and occasionally facilitate discussions related to planning and strategy.

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree with a minimum of five years of management experience, or an MSW with at least three years of directly related experience supporting survivors of intimate partner violence, homelessness, and poverty.
  • Current Social Worker certification.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience, ideally within a unionized setting.
  • Demonstrated dedication to women’s rights, anti-racism, anti-oppression principles, and continuous professional learning.
  • Proficiency in French or another language is considered an asset.

Additional Information

  • Julliette’s Place operates in a unionized environment represented by OPSEU Local 518.
  • This is a full-time, in-person role requiring 37.5 hours per week, with some weekend work. Hybrid work is not available.
  • Participation in a rotating on-call schedule on a bi-weekly basis is required.
  • Medical clearance and a functional abilities assessment are required.
  • A valid Criminal Reference Check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination are mandatory.
