SENIOR RESEARCH MANAGER — VOLUNTEER, FULL-TIME

Time Commitment: Full-time volunteer commitment, 35 hours per week. Duration negotiable, four month minimum.

This is a remote volunteer opportunity with Right to Live Canada, a virtual-office based Canadian non-profit start-up.

------ THE MISSION

Right to Live Canada exists to realize the right to live as a practical, supported, executable choice.

We were founded in response to systemic poverty-driven euthanasia amongst Canadians with disabilities: cases where Canadians choose MAiD because they cannot access the essentials required to continue living. This is a specific form of economic euthanasia: euthanasia where a preferable living future existed, but was not achieved.

That crisis remains our founding application point. It is not the boundary of our work.

Right to Live Canada is building Continuity: the service, financial, technological, and institutional architecture required to keep life connected to preferable living futures. We work from the recognition that biological escape velocity may become achievable for a significant portion of people alive today, and that the right to live must now be pursued with the seriousness, urgency, and scale appropriate to that possibility.

Our four core areas are:

• Continuity Service — developing a service to identify, propose, finance and execute preferable living futures in the event of potential death.
• Continuity Insurance — developing a finance model for Continuity Service in the event of potential death scenarios.
• Social Brokerage — developing a system to productize and sell the anonymized outcome of a life supported to the global market as an impact product in exchange for the capital to accomplish it, in order to fund those who cannot afford Continuity Service or Insurance.
• Corporate Farming — developing a global-scale system to take concepts, form a structure around them starting with a team, incubate them internally and nurture their growth towards incorporation, and then emit them as formed non-profits dedicated to their founding concept such as a technology, project, infrastructure or issue.

Right to Live Canada is a founder-centric, early-stage non-profit pursuing rapid national and global expansion. We use the advantages of the non-profit form—volunteer-class labor, sponsorship sales, grants, subsidized infrastructure, open development, impact monetization, and institutional farming—to uphold and extend the right to live for humans and, ultimately, other conscious beings.

------ ROLE DESCRIPTION

This is a full-time, volunteer, and remote role for the Senior Research Manager within the Global Narrative Integrity Team at Right to Live Canada.

The Senior Research Manager is responsible for leading the organization's Research & Evidence Department and ensuring that every briefing note, evidence package, policy summary, and editorial recommendation is supported by rigorous, transparent, and verifiable research. Working closely with the Managing Editor and Media Intelligence Lead, this position transforms emerging narratives into thoroughly researched analyses that inform responsible public engagement.

The Senior Research Manager oversees a multidisciplinary team consisting of Research Analysts, Fact Check Specialists, Citation Specialists, and Academic Liaison Volunteers. Together, they verify factual claims, identify primary sources, evaluate statistics, review academic literature, and develop comprehensive evidence packages that support the organization's editorial and public affairs activities.

The successful candidate will establish research standards, develop verification methodologies, oversee fact-checking procedures, maintain the organization's research library, and ensure consistency in evidence collection across all departments. The role requires exceptional analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity.

As the Global Narrative Integrity Team continues to grow internationally, the Senior Research Manager will mentor volunteer researchers, strengthen relationships with academic institutions and subject matter experts, and contribute to building one of the most comprehensive evidence libraries supporting responsible public discourse on Medical Assistance in Dying and related public policy issues.

------ PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include:

• Lead the Research & Evidence Department.
• Supervise Research Analysts, Fact Check Specialists, Citation Specialists, and Academic Liaison Volunteers.
• Develop organizational research standards and evidence verification procedures.
• Verify factual claims appearing in media coverage, policy discussions, and public commentary.
• Conduct comprehensive literature reviews using academic journals, government publications, and primary source documentation.
• Build evidence packages supporting editorial outreach, public affairs initiatives, and strategic communications.
• Maintain and expand the organization's centralized research library and citation database.
• Review statistical evidence, healthcare data, legislative documents, and policy reports for accuracy and context.
• Coordinate closely with the Media Intelligence Department to prioritize research on emerging narratives.
• Work with Editorial Operations to ensure all published materials meet organizational standards for factual accuracy and evidence quality.
• Support the Public Affairs Department by preparing research summaries and policy analyses for legislative developments.
• Mentor volunteers in research methodology, source evaluation, citation standards, and evidence synthesis.
• Continuously improve research workflows, documentation standards, and knowledge management practices across the organization.

This is a senior leadership role requiring exceptional analytical ability, intellectual curiosity, and organizational leadership. The Senior Research Manager serves as the organization's principal authority on research quality and evidence integrity, ensuring that every public-facing initiative is built upon credible, transparent, and thoroughly verified information. The expected commitment is 35+ hours per week, with flexibility during periods of increased research activity or major public policy developments.

------ QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Experience in research leadership, public policy, journalism, academia, healthcare research, or a related analytical field.
• Demonstrated experience conducting literature reviews, policy research, or evidence synthesis.
• Strong understanding of research methodology, source evaluation, and fact-checking principles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Exceptional analytical thinking, critical reasoning, and attention to detail.
• Experience interpreting academic publications, government reports, statistical datasets, and primary source documentation.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Comfort working remotely with a high degree of ownership, initiative, and accountability.
• Experience mentoring researchers or coordinating multidisciplinary research projects.
• Commitment to a full-time volunteer schedule of approximately 35 hours per week.

Preferred

• Graduate education or advanced experience in public policy, health sciences, journalism, law, education, political science, sociology, or another research-intensive discipline.
• Experience working with citation management software, academic databases, and evidence management systems.
• Familiarity with systematic reviews, qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and evidence-based policy analysis.
• Experience supporting nonprofit organizations, think tanks, universities, healthcare institutions, or research organizations.
• Knowledge of healthcare policy, ethics, disability policy, or Medical Assistance in Dying.
• Interest in building a globally recognized evidence and research capability supporting responsible journalism and informed public discourse.

This is a full-time volunteer role requiring a minimum commitment of 35 hours per week. Right to Live Canada is an early-stage, founder-led organization pursuing rapid national and global expansion. The role is best suited to someone who is comfortable with startup intensity, high responsibility, and a culture of serious dedication to the mission.
