The Senior Officer, Major Giving (TOK) is responsible for managing a major gifts portfolio to increase support in alignment with the BC SPCA’s strategic priorities both regionally and provincially. This includes the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of significant donors and prospects primarily residing in the TOK Region. The core focus of this role is to deepen relationships within the region with individuals, as well as some foundations and corporations, to grow the number of supporters making five-figure and larger gifts.
The Role
- Manage a portfolio of individual, foundation, and corporate donors and prospects in the Thompson‑Okanagan‑Kootenays region who give, or have the capacity to give, $5,000+ to local and provincial initiatives.
- Develop and implement an annual portfolio plan, including identification, personalized cultivation and stewardship strategies to ensure retention, and growth of revenue and the number of donors giving five‑figure gifts.
- Research and write personalized proposals, compelling letters, strong funding applications, and inspiring gratitude reports.
- Meet and exceed revenue and moves management targets within the Major Giving portfolio annual plan, as guided by the Manager, Major Giving, and in collaboration with the Major Giving team.
- Act as the Major Giving TOK lead to articulate funding priorities projects and develop budgets to support fundraising.
- Act as an expert resource for the Major Giving team when others have donors in their portfolio with an identified interest in work being done in the TOK region.
- Provide meaningful, creative, and appropriate stewardship for donors in their portfolio, including demonstrating the direct impact of the donor’s generosity.
- Coordinate donor recognition by working with appropriate BC SPCA staff to ensure all commitments and deliverables are fulfilled.
- Prepare for and participate in face-to-face meetings and solicitations, partnering with Executive and Senior Leaders, Regional Staff and senior volunteer fundraisers as appropriate.
- Identify and lead projects, as assigned, to improve processes and procedures of portfolio management at the BC SPCA.
- Participate in and contribute to developing the donor pipeline with colleagues managing major and mid-level giving portfolios, including the identification and stewardship of mid-level and expectant donors.
Other Duties:
- Collaborate with the Senior Officer, Events (TOK) on donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities to help grow event revenue.
- Support Centre Managers in the region with non-fundraising opportunities to build community engagement and connections (attend community meetings and events, where appropriate).
- Act as an ambassador for the BC SPCA by sharing the organization’s story and values within the region, fostering meaningful connections and encouraging community involvement.
- Throughout the year, support the Communications and Digital teams by sourcing and providing local story and image content.
- Support Regional Manager and Centre Managers in the region to ensure front-line staff process donations accurately, promptly, and provide excellent customer service to donors and the public.
- Field inquiries, provide information, and assist in resolving complaints in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate and timely donor records in Raiser’s Edge and other tracking systems, ensuring all correspondence and interactions are documented.
- Conduct research on current and prospective donors.
- Use relevant measures and metrics to evaluate the success of the assigned portfolio.
- Report on activities regularly to the Manager, Major Giving and to the Senior Director, Philanthropy and other staff as requested.
- Contribute to quarterly reporting on key philanthropy initiatives and activities for the Board as requested.
- Attend and contribute to team, department and organization meetings. Including travel for in-person department meetings twice annually.
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry peers and commit to continued education, learning, and innovation, with a focus on major gifts fundraising.
- Contribute to the growth of a culture of health and safety and volunteerism.
- Demonstrate a commitment to BC SPCA values, work-life balance and principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and reconciliation.
- Travel throughout the assigned region to events and locations, as required.
- Other related duties as assigned.
What you bring to the team:
- University degree plus 5 – 8 years of experience in fundraising, with a focus on major giving (CFRE accreditation is an asset), or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer.
- Experience soliciting gifts of $25,000 + and managing relationships with donors who give at this level and/or have the potential to.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diverse audience of internal and external parties at all levels in a respectful manner.
- Ability to work effectively within established boundaries and proactively seek guidance when needed.
- A demonstrated ability to be flexible, creative and very well-organized, and maintain a positive, solution-oriented approach and resilience in the face of challenges
- Collaborative and team-oriented.
- Professional demeanor, attire, and presentation.
- Intermediate advanced skills with Microsoft products.
- Familiarity with a CRM, ideally Raiser’s Edge.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
- Must hold a valid, unrestricted BC driver’s license.
- Must be able to travel and do some weekend and evening work as required.
- Working knowledge of concepts of equity, diversity, inclusion and reconciliation; able to relate respectfully to a diverse audience.

The BC SPCA compensation structure is based on external benchmarks and is regularly reviewed. Starting placement on the range for this position will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience.
