Position Summary:
The Senior Manager, Research, Evaluation and Data Analysis plays a lead role in United Way East Ontario’s (UWEO) commitment to our partner agencies, volunteers and donors to steward community fund investments to ensure that the greatest impact is achieved and that programs are being delivered as intended. The Senior Manager, Research, Evaluation, and Data Analysis, will oversee the research function within Community Impact ensuring that all strategic priorities have the research necessary for goal achievement; that community research from universities, government, NGO's and other funders is leveraged; that United Way research is made available and marketed to the social service sector in East Ontario; and that staff have the tools and knowledge required to complete preliminary research in their subject areas. The Senior Manager will represent UWEO externally to speak about our funding strategies, evidencebased approaches, and evaluation practices.
Key responsibilities include management and leadership of the management and tracking of data related to investment (financial and in-kind), as well as being responsible for the production of high- level reports to provide reliable, timely and accurate quantitative information for UWEO both internally and externally. It includes taking a lead role in the development of necessary processes to ensure effective and accurate monitoring of investments as well as the availability of data to ensure that resource allocation and investment decisions are based on strong and reliable data.
This position works closely with all members of the Community Investment and Community Impact teams and works cross-functionally across the organization and externally, often representing the voice of CI on committees and working groups.
Qualifications:
Education
- A university degree in social sciences, public administration, business or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
Experience
- Minimum five years progressive employment experience in research, evaluation and / or data analysis within the social services, university, and/or voluntary sector with a comprehensive knowledge of social service systems, and research and evaluation methodologies.
- Minimum five years’ experience in working with and managing volunteers.
- Experience leading or chairing stakeholder or network tables.
- Experience working with external organizations leveraging research and evaluation expertise and efforts.
- Experience writing reports for both internal and external purposes
- Experience leading research projects.
- Experience in public speaking.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated expertise in research and evaluation methodologies and practices.
- Ability to to collect, analyze and synthesize large amounts of data.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and nurturing actionable research.
- Ability to work as part of a team, to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines.
- Proven understanding of the non-profit sector, specifically community boards, management issues, program evaluation, and research support requirements.
- Ability to lead the implementation of research and evaluation plans.
- Show ability to organize and present information, views, and concepts in a concise and understandable format to various key stakeholders and audiences.
- Ability to identify, build and maintain formal and informal networks and partnerships, both internally and externally.
- Proven organizational, interpersonal, facilitation and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to think both strategically and critically.
- Ability to solve problems and to respond effectively in demanding situations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in program development and outcomes evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong analytical, writing and presentation skills.
- Computer literacy in word processing, database, and presentation software, especially Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Written and oral fluency in English required with bilingualism preferred.
