About this role:
Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Manager of Finance provides strategic financial guidance to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team, supporting decision-making, financial planning, and investment strategies. Leading the Manager of Finance & Accounting, this role oversees budgeting, auditing, risk management, and regulatory compliance, and administers the Raiser's Edge donor database and tax receipting, all in support of our mission.
What you will be doing:
FINANCIAL OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
- Provide financial leadership and guidance to the CEO, SLT, and Board of Directors.
- Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cash flow management.
- Develop and present the annual operating and capital budgets to the SLT and Board of Directors.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Monitor cash flow and ensure financial sustainability through proactive financial management with the CEO.
- Supervise payroll, benefits administration, and financial aspects of HR in collaboration with the CEO and Operations team.
- Oversee the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
- Establish, implement, and update financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Assess and improve financial and accounting systems to enhance reporting, forecasting, and oversight.
- Collaborate with the Senior Manager of People and Operations to manage capital assets and maintain an inventory chart.
- Ensure the organization maintains adequate and comprehensive insurance coverage to mitigate risks.
- Oversee investment policies and practices in consultation with the CEO and Finance Committee.
FINANCIAL STRATEGY, PLANNING & ANALYSIS
- Develop and execute financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and longterm growth.
- Lead budgeting and grant planning, ensuring program-based budgets align with mission objectives and properly allocate restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Plan for multi-year grants and donor commitments to ensure long-term financial stability.
- Conduct financial forecasting and scenario planning, estimating future revenue streams (donations, grants, fundraising events, government funding) and preparing for funding fluctuations.
- Perform variance analysis, comparing actual vs. budgeted expenses to optimize resource allocation.
- Develop financial models and sustainability plans, including cash flow projections and scenario analyses.
- Assess program cost-effectiveness using key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Ensure donor and grant reporting compliance, providing financial statements that support transparency and accountability.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to guide strategic planning, risk management, and revenue diversification.
COMPLIANCE & RISK MANAGEMENT
- Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal regulations, including CRA and charity regulations, and the timely filing of reports and returns.
- Ensure compliance with grant agreements, contribution contracts, and funding requirements.
- Identify financial risks, develop mitigation strategies, and provide risk management guidance to the CEO and Board.
- Help negotiate investment and line of credit rates as required.
- Document and maintain business workflows, policies, and procedures to ensure operational continuity.
FUNDRAISING ADMINISTRATION
- Administer and maintain the Raiser’s Edge donor database, ensuring accurate tracking of donations, donor interactions, and donor cultivation cycles.
- Enter all donations, including major fundraising events (e.g., Soirée, third-party events, monthly donations), constituent updates, and actions.
- Issue tax receipts for all donations by deadlines, ensure CRA compliance, and verify all fiscal year donations are recorded and receipted for T3010 reporting.
- Produce donor and fundraising campaign reports, primarily from Raiser’s Edge.
- Support fundraising correspondence, including sponsor reports, impact reports, and donor communications.
- Work with the Fundraising and Operations teams to develop best practices for donation administration, financial protocols, and documentation, including consistent recording of actions, pledges, and opportunities.
- Assist in the preparation and administration of major gift donations, including gift agreements, financial documentation, and pledge tracking.
What you bring:
- CPA designation, or equivalent education and experience, is an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of senior financial management experience, ideally within the nonprofit sector.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards, GAAP, CRA regulations for charities, and fund accounting.
- Experience managing government and private grants, including financial reporting requirements.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial matters to non-financial audiences.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to the organization’s mission.

This Position:
This is a permanent, full-time (35 hours/week) position reporting to our Vancouver office with a minimum of two days in office. Daytime travel and some evening and weekend work will be required which will be supported through flex / lieu time.
