What You Will Do:
The Senior Manager of Dunn Avenue Housing will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Fred Victor’s permanent housing program in Parkdale Toronto. This program provides 51 units of affordable housing, community development and case management support to single adults, with a focus on people who are living on low incomes and who have experienced chronic homelessness. This building has units dedicated to serving Indigenous people, people living with disabilities and women, non-binary and gender fluid people.
The Senior Manager of Dunn Avenue Housing will implement a model that reflects the principles of community development, harm reduction, trauma informed care, Housing First, eviction prevention and fosters tenant involvement. The preferred candidate will excel in providing effective services for tenants who are marginalized in our society and in coaching and assisting staff to manage the day-to-day challenges that the tenants and the program encounter.
The Senior Manager of Dunn Avenue Housing is responsible for maintaining a positive and collaborative relationship with community interest groups, community and neighbourhood, as well as for establishing relationships with community resources in the neighbourhood and with other organizations that provide culturally relevant and responsive services. This program also has a partnership with Social Medicine from University Health Network and will work collaboratively with that program in order to provide the best care possible for the tenants.
The position requires commitment and adherence to the values and goals of Fred Victor as expressed in the mission and strategic plan of the organization. This position also shares on call duties with other Housing Managers for after-hours support including evenings, weekends and overnights.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Degree or Diploma in Social Services, preference to Indigenous studies, and/or equivalent work experience
- 2 years’ experience supervising, managing, evaluating, training and coaching staff in a unionized environment
- At least two years’ experience working with the Indigenous community, women and people experiencing chronic homelessness
- Extensive experience working with people who come from diverse racial, gender, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and who have experienced varying degrees of mental health, social isolation and substance use
- Strong understanding of and commitment to harm reduction, trauma-informed, and anti-oppression practices
- Extensive case management knowledge and experience
- Thorough understanding of systemic issues which affect low-income tenants
- Highly developed skills in community development and team building
- Proven financial and budget management skills
- Literacy in word processing, spreadsheet, and database computer programs
- A strong commitment to staff development and support, bringing a proactive approach to fostering professional growth, delivering ongoing training, and creating a positive, collaborative team environment.
What Sets You Apart:
- Experience working with regulated health professionals in multi-disciplinary teams
- Knowledge of history of colonization and intergenerational traumas impacting the health and wellness of Indigenous People
- Extensive experience working with people who are homeless, who have histories of homelessness and/or who are living in poverty
- Extensive advocacy, crisis intervention and prevention, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills
- Extensive knowledge of community-based resources
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Lived experience and/or experience working with people who come from diverse racial, gender, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and who have experienced varying degrees of mental health, social isolation and substance use
- Proven ability to challenge organization, staff and tenant communities in a positive and creative way to effect better service.
- Highly developed ability to plan and prioritize work
Compensation and Benefits
- For the Senior Manager, Dunn Ave Housing, Fred Victor offers a salary range of $77,161.50 to $88,608.00 per year.
- 4 weeks of vacation to start + 1 float day.
