Senior Grant Finance & Compliance Officer
About SOS Children’s Villages Canada
SOS Children’s Villages Canada is part of the world’s largest organization focused on supporting children and young people without parental care or at risk of losing it. Working in more than 135 countries and territories, we partner with communities, governments, donors, and the private sector to strengthen families, provide quality care, and support young people to transition successfully into adulthood.
SOS Children’s Villages Canada manages a growing portfolio of institutionally funded grant projects, including multi-year, multi-country projects supported by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and large foundations. We are seeking a Senior Grant Finance & Compliance Officer to play a key role in ensuring strong financial stewardship, donor compliance, and effective support to program teams.
About the Role
The Senior Grant Finance & Compliance Officer is primarily responsible for the financial management, compliance, and reporting of SOS Children’s Villages Canada’s GAC-funded projects, as well as other large and complex grants. This role works closely with program managers, country office finance teams, and external partners to ensure donor requirements are met throughout the full project lifecycle—from proposal development to close-out.
This is a hands-on, highly collaborative role requiring strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to translate donor financial rules into practical guidance for program teams.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Financial Management & Reporting
- Manage the financial oversight of assigned grants, with a primary focus on GAC-funded projects, ensuring compliance with donor agreements and SOS Children’s Villages Canada policies.
- Lead the preparation, review, and consolidation of donor budgets, forecasts, financial reports, and budget revisions.
- Monitor expenditures against approved budgets, analyze variances, and work with program teams to recommend corrective actions where needed.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of donor financial reports and supporting documentation.
- Support grant close-out processes, including final financial reporting and reconciliations.
Donor Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with donor regulations, including eligibility of costs, procurement, partner flow-down requirements, and financial controls.
- Maintain strong documentation and audit trails in line with GAC and other donor requirements.
- Support internal and external audits, including preparation of documentation, coordination with country offices, and follow-up on audit findings.
- Identify financial and compliance risks and proactively work with internal teams to mitigate them.
Budgeting, Systems & Coordination
- Support proposal development by contributing to financial proposals, budgets, and cost narratives for institutional and large foundation donors.
- Ensure alignment between donor budgets, program workplans, and SOS Children’s Villages Canada’s internal financial systems.
- Work closely with international finance teams to ensure timely, accurate financial data and consistent application of donor rules.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of grant finance tools, templates, and guidance.
Capacity Building & Internal Support
- Provide practical guidance and training to program and finance staff on donor financial requirements, particularly GAC policies.
- Act as a key internal resource on grant finance and compliance questions.
- Support a culture of accountability, transparency, and strong financial stewardship across the organization.
About You
You are a detail-oriented and proactive finance professional who thrives in a mission-driven environment and is comfortable working across teams and time zones.
You bring:
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in grant finance, donor reporting, and compliance, ideally within an international NGO or donor-funded environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-year, multi-country grants, including institutional donors.
