Job Posting – Senior Finance Officer The Society of United Professionals, IFPTE Local 160, is seeking a Senior Finance Officer. The Senior Finance Officer has primary responsibility for the integrity and organization of the Society’s financial records and procedures, and for providing reports and advice to management, elected officers and committees. The incumbent works closely with the elected Secretary-Treasurer in the discharge of their responsibilities. The successful applicant will have a minimum of:


• A Bachelor’s degree in a finance-related field, or equivalent.
• CPA accounting designation.
• At least 5 years of experience in a senior finance role with broad responsibility.

The successful applicant will also have abilities and experience in the following areas:


• Primary responsibility for the maintenance of accurate and complete financial records for the Society in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.


• Preparation of routine and ad-hoc financial statements and reports, and be able to brief non-experts about those statements and reports.


• Experience with accounting for trusts and segregated funds.
• Provision of sound financial advice to the Secretary-Treasurer, Finance Committee, Executive

Committee, Executive Board and Society Council.
• Administration of payroll, pension and benefits.
• Effective supervision of other accounting staff.

The following abilities are key to success in this position:


• Ability to work independently to meet established deadlines, and to respond to emergent requests.
• Ability to work in a hands-on environment with a small finance team.
• Ability to write clearly and prepare recommendations and proposals which can be understood by a

lay audience.
• Ability to communicate orally to convey information and provide instruction and advice to others

regarding procedures. This permanent, unionized position, located in midtown Toronto, with the possibility of some remote work. The salary range for the position is $152,048 to $178,800 per year, based on a 35-hour workweek, with the occasional need for evening and weekend work.
