The Opportunity
MedicAlert is seeking a strategic, hands-on Senior Director, Development to lead and grow the organization’s philanthropy program at a pivotal moment. This is a builder role for an experienced fundraiser who thrives in a small-team environment and is equally comfortable shaping strategy and executing it.
The Senior Director contributes to organization-wide strategy, budgeting, and decision-making and serves as an external ambassador to donors, partners, volunteers, and key stakeholders.
Reporting to the President & CEO, the Senior Director serves as the organization’s most senior fundraising leader and is responsible for designing and scaling a comprehensive development program
This role is ideal for a senior fundraising professional who wants a leadership role, meaningful scope, executive partnership, and the opportunity to build and grow a high-performing philanthropy program.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Design and implement a multi-year development strategy aligned with MedicAlert’s mission and growth goals
- Act as external ambassador to donors, partners, volunteers, and key stakeholders and support senior volunteer engagement in fundraising
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the President & CEO on philanthropy strategy, donor engagement, and revenue opportunities
- Build a culture of philanthropy across the organization through active collaboration with marketing, communications, finance, operations and program teams to execute philanthropy program and meet targets
Major Gifts
- Personally manage and grow a portfolio of individual donors, families, and foundations giving $25,000+
- Lead donor research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, partnering with the CEO on select major gift relationships
- Develop donor-specific engagement plans, proposals, stewardship and impact reporting
- Identify and upgrade mid-level donors into deeper philanthropic partnerships
Annual Giving, Mid-level & Monthly Giving
- Lead the development and execution of annual program strategy, including acquisition, renewal, retention, and reactivation
- Provide oversight and direction to internal teams and external vendors to improve performance across direct mail, digital, and tele fundraising campaigns
- Use data and performance insights to increase ROI, guide testing, optimization, and investment decisions.
Stewardship & Donor Experience
- Design and implement a stewardship program
- Ensure effective acknowledgement, reporting, and donor communications to ensure a high-quality donor experience
- Use donor feedback and data insights to continuously improve engagement and satisfaction
Planned Giving
- Maintain a simple, donor-friendly pathway for bequests and gifts of securities, with opportunities to expand over time as capacity allows
Operations & Data Discipline
- Supervise and support Development Associate, providing clear direction, coaching, and skill development
- Strengthen fundraising systems, CRM discipline, and reporting practices
- Ensure data integrity, accurate reporting, and strong collaboration with finance and operations
Qualifications
- Proven Success in securing major gifts, personally managing donor relationships and solicitations.
- Experience initiating and/or strengthening fundraising programs in mid-sized organizations
- Strong understanding of moves management, stewardship, and fundraising analytics
- Demonstrated experience with donor management systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative, accountable, and values-driven
- Experience in health, safety, or social impact sectors is an asset
- Bachelor’s degree required; CFRE or equivalent experience considered an asset
