Position Overview:

As a key member of our Philanthropy team, the Senior Development Officer (SDO) will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Kids Help Phone. Beginning in January 2026, Kids Help Phone will launch a new Foundation, and this role will be instrumental in its inaugural success. The SDO will lead efforts to grow and manage a portfolio of major donors, with a particular focus on securing six- and seven-figure gifts from individuals and corporations.

This is not only a fundraising position — it’s an opportunity to help lay the foundation (literally and figuratively) for the next chapter of Kids Help Phone’s impact. Working closely with leadership, you will craft and execute tailored strategies, cultivate long-term relationships, and champion support for the most urgent needs facing youth in Canada today.

We are seeking an ambitious, curious, and driven fundraiser who is energized by the chance to be part of something new and lasting. If you are passionate about building authentic donor relationships and excited by the opportunity to help inaugurate a national foundation dedicated to youth mental health, this role offers a once-in-a-career moment to make your mark.

What You’ll Contribute:

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects primarily in Toronto and across Ontario.
  • Secure six- and seven-figure major gifts (ideally multi-year commitments) from individual and corporate supporters.
  • Develop customized proposals, stewardship reports, gift agreements, and impact updates that align donor interests with KHP’s priorities.
  • Collaborate with Advancement colleagues (e.g., Prospect Research, Donor Experience) to drive pipeline activity and stewardship strategies.
  • Prepare internal communications and donor-facing materials, including briefings for senior leadership.
  • Maintain accurate and timely donor records using Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Support the VP, Philanthropy with strategy development, proposal preparation, and donor stewardship.
  • Champion equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility across your work and relationships.

What You’ll Need:

  • 3+ years of experience in major gift fundraising or corporate partnerships, with a proven track record of securing six- or seven-figure gifts.
  • A post-secondary degree in fundraising, marketing, business development, or related experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with leadership volunteers is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and fundraising databases (Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred).
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend events.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is a strong asset.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you may be asked to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role and the overall business objectives of Kids Help Phone

Don’t meet every single qualification and requirement? Studies have shown that women and racialized people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Kids Help Phone we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role, but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles that our organization is recruiting for.
