Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

We are looking for a strategic and relationship-driven fundraising leader to join our growing Fund Development team. Reporting to the Director, Philanthropy, the Senior Development Officer, Major Gifts will play a pivotal role in advancing hospital-wide priorities by cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding transformational philanthropic support.

This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church St in Penetanguishene, ON

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Build and manage a portfolio of 50 to 100 active major gift donors and prospects within the following areas:
  • Research and identify individuals, private foundations, businesses and organizations appropriate for targeted cultivation, wider involvement
  • Research, compile and interpret data on prospects and donors and maintain reports.
  • Write and produce fundraising proposals and grant applications
  • Build and grow relationships with major gift prospects and donors through relationship management
  • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies, including training and working with volunteers
  • Manage prospect meetings including preparing presentations and gathering background information materials, talking points for meetings with individuals
  • Manage prospect relationships in an appropriate and timely manner toward successful solicitation
  • Create and maintain stewardship plans for all donors
  • Manage and support Waypoint leaders' involvement in donor cultivation and stewardship to ensure growth in donor relationships
  • Work collaboratively with and in support of the Development Committee, Development Staff, and other colleagues to attract and engage donors.
  • Partner with the Strategic Communications & Public Affairs team to develop online and social media content to support fundraising efforts.
  • Advise on community engagement to identify potential volunteers, community connections, networking and event opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Fund Development colleagues on initiatives that mobilize donors and the communities that Waypoint serves.
  • Establish and monitor annual goals, plans, metrics, and budgets to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and applicable health, safety, and security legislation.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in fundraising, sales, and marketing or non-profit/volunteer management (Required).
  • CFRE designation, current or past membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) or related organization (Preferred).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of demonstrated fundraising leadership experience (Required).
  • Willingness to travel (Required).
  • Proven ability to cultivate donors and secure major gifts ($25,000+), with experience in hospital, healthcare, or academic settings and skill in aligning donor interests with organizational priorities.
  • Strong understanding of Waypoint fundraising priorities through building internal relationships to support cultivation and gift solicitation.
  • Broad fundraising experience including capital and major projects, redevelopment initiatives, stewardship, major gift solicitation, campaign development, CRA compliance, and fundraising planning.
  • Research skills to support prospect identification, goal setting, and application of current methodologies, including volunteer training and support.
  • Facilitation and coaching skills to train and engage staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Software proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor database software.
  • Results-driven work ethic with the ability to work independently and deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes.
  • Leadership skills to guide and support staff and volunteers in gift solicitation.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills for internal and external collaboration.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, adapt in a fast-paced environment, and manage diverse responsibilities.
  • Commitment to the Hospital’s Mission, Vision, and Values, and to maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
