The Globe and Mail Foundation
Full-Time | C$75,000–C$80,000 | Toronto, Canada
About Us
The Globe and Mail Foundation is a newly established charity dedicated to protecting and promoting excellence in journalism. With an educational mandate, the Foundation’s mission is to deliver programming that enhances media literacy, deepens Canadians' knowledge on issues of the day, and supports high-quality training for journalists in Canada and around the world. We are at the beginning of our journey — and that is the opportunity.
The Opportunity
This is a rare chance to be a founding team member of a new organization and help shape it from the ground up. If you are an entrepreneurial, well-rounded, detail-oriented individual, ideally with knowledge of the news media sector, and who is energized by the challenge of turning ideas into reality, this role may be for you. Reporting to the executive director, you will be responsible for bridging program strategy and daily execution, ensuring that events and activities are delivered efficiently and achieve their objectives. You will bring excellent communication skills, event and/or program production experience, as well as a desire to work on external stakeholder relationships to advance the Foundation’s mission.
What You Will Do
- Work closely with the executive director and program consultants to translate strategic vision into concrete, well-organized offerings
- Research and ideate, plan, and execute in-person and online events, including our public programming and photojournalism summit
- Manage program logistics end-to-end: timelines, budgets, vendors, participants, and evaluations
- Manage open calls for submissions, volunteer advisory and jury meetings, and bursary disbursement to participants
- Contribute to preparation of funding proposals and reports; coordinate benefits and recognition for supporters and sponsors
- Develop web and social media calendars and content to engage the public and increase awareness of the Foundation, including fundraising and event campaigns
- Administrative duties related to operations, including process documentation, vendor liaising, and budget management; help build and maintain the operational systems, processes, and tools the foundation needs to function effectively as it grows
- Ensure compliance with relevant Canadian charity requirements
- Other operational and administrative duties as required
Who You Are
- An organized and detail-oriented professional who excels across multiple domains
- Entrepreneurial, self-directed, energized by a start-up environment
- A strong communicator with good instincts for tone and audience
- Collaborative and ready to roll up your sleeves, working in close partnership with the executive director and other consultants
- Passionate about the role of a free press in a healthy society
Qualifications
- Bachelors’ degree, or the equivalent of training and experience, in a relevant field
- Minimum of three to five years’ experience in event and/or program production and planning (live and online), or a related field
- Experience with news media or a related industry would be considered an asset
- Experience with and knowledge of the Canadian charitable sector would be considered an asset
