Senior Bookkeeper
TWR Canada is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our Finance & Administration team in either a full-time or fractional capacity (30–40 hours/week). This role is ideal for a finance professional who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment and is passionate about supporting ministry through excellence in financial stewardship, accuracy, and accountability.
Reporting to the Director of Finance & Administration, the Senior Bookkeeper will oversee full-cycle accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll support, reconciliations, fund accounting, financial reporting, and audit preparation. The role also supports missionary and ministry financial operations, ensuring donations, designated funds, and financial transactions are managed with integrity and in accordance with donor intent and Canadian charitable compliance requirements.
The successful candidate will bring strong accounting knowledge, exceptional organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a paperless, cloud-based environment. This position requires someone who can work independently while collaborating effectively with ministry leaders, staff, vendors, and global ministry partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Full-Cycle Accounting & Financial Operations
- Perform full-cycle accounting functions for TWR Canada, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions in accordance with Canadian GAAP for charitable organizations (ASNPO)
- Enter all transactions by location, class, and GL, and ensure timely payments of vendors and government remittances
- Process and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, accruals, adjustments, foreign exchange gains/losses and intercompany transactions
- Fully reconcile GL accounts to banks, third party revenue streams, and inter-company reporting to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper fund allocation
- Enter annual budget into accounting software
- Maintain accurate and organized digital financial records in a cloud-based environment
- Support the integrity and stewardship of ministry finances by maintaining strong attention to detail and confidentiality in all financial matters
Fund Accounting & Ministry Financial Stewardship
- Maintain and reconcile fund accounting records for missionary support, designated giving, grants, projects, and ministry program
- Prepare and review monthly reports related to missionary projects, restricted funds, and inter-branch ministry transactions
- Ensure donations and ministry expenditures are recorded accurately
- Assist in monitoring ministry cash flow
- Support financial practices that reflect accountability, integrity, and faithful stewardship consistent with TWR Canada’s mission and Christ-centred values
Payroll, Reconciliations & Compliance
- Process overseas missionary payroll and related remittances accurately and on time
- Prepare and reconcile payroll-related accounts, deductions, and government remittances, including CRA requirements
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and investment reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies as required
- Prepare and file HST rebates and other regulatory filings accurately and within required deadlines
- Maintain audit-ready financial documentation and support year-end audit preparation, working papers, and auditor requests
- Assist with preparation of annual regulatory filings, including the CRA Charities Information
- Return (T3010) and other compliance-related documentation
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and supporting schedules for review by the Director of Finance & Administration
- Provide financial analysis and reporting support to leadership to assist with informed decision-making and operational planning
- Identify discrepancies, trends, or areas of concern and proactively recommend corrective action or process improvements
- Assist with special financial projects, reporting requests, and organizational initiatives as assigned
Systems, Process Improvement & Team Collaboration
- Support accounting systems, workflows, and internal controls to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and accountability
- Contribute to the development and documentation of financial procedures, best practices, and process improvements
- Collaborate effectively with finance staff, ministry leaders, and cross-functional teams to support organizational goals and service excellence
Other Duties
- Model Christ-like character in professional conduct, communication, and stewardship responsibilities
- Participate in staff prayer, devotional, and spiritual community activities as part of TWR Canada’s ministry culture
- Perform other finance, administrative, and ministry-related duties as assigned by the Director of Finance & Administration
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Affirm alignment with TWR Canada's mission, Statement of Faith, and core values
- Spiritually mature Christian with an evident love for God and people with demonstrated commitment to personal and corporate prayer as a vital part of the ministry culture, including leading and participating in prayer and devotions
- CBP qualification. Additional PCP qualification is an asset.
- 5-10 years of experience in intermediate to senior bookkeeping within a fund accounting environment (nonprofit, charity, or ministry experience is an asset)
- Advanced to expert working knowledge of cloud-based accounting software and financial reporting tools (QBO, other)
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, and propose solutions
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism, discretion, and accuracy
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Completion of a successful police record check
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position reports to TWR Canada’s London office, which operates during core business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Although the ideal candidate will work in–person, the role offers flexibility and may be performed fully remotely or through a hybrid arrangement, depending on the successful candidate’s location.
The role is 40 hours per week, within core business hours; however, consideration will be given to candidates with 30-40 hours’/week availability. BONA FIDE OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS The following are considered to be bona fide occupational requirements of this position.
- Faith: as TWR Canada is a faith-based organization working primarily with Christians and those promoting the Christian faith, the person who holds this position must possess a sincere and enduring Christian faith that aligns with our organization’s faith statement. They must be regular attendees of a local Christian community. Annual signing of the statement of faith is required to remain in this position.
- A Christian Lifestyle: for similar reasons as above, the individual must have a lifestyle consistent with biblical Christianity. Annual signing of the Lifestyle statement is required to remain in this position.
