
Scholar Services Coordinator (Part Time/Contract)

We are seeking a part‑time, remote Vocational & Technical Education (VTE) Scholar Services Coordinator who resides in British Columbia to support BC‑based VTE scholarship applicants and recipients. This role focuses on student advising, academic support, financial aid navigation, and career development to promote Scholar success, retention, and program completion outcomes. The ideal candidate is highly organized, student‑centered, and experienced in post‑secondary or student services, with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
This position requires flexibility, as hours may vary based on Scholar availability. Occasional local travel within BC may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain supportive relationships with VTE Scholars to promote student engagement, retention, and program completion success
- Provide individualized academic advising, personal support, and financial aid guidance, referring Scholars to appropriate post-secondary and community resources
- Monitor, track, and document Scholar progress, proactively addressing potential challenges
- Collaborate with schools, administrators, and community partners to strengthen program support
- Collect, track, and analyze program data to support reporting, evaluation, and continuous improvement
- Maintain accurate records, calendars, and case notes using CRM and data management systems
- Promote the BC VTE Scholarship Program through outreach, events, and recruitment efforts, and support the selection and onboarding of new Scholars as needed.
- Perform other duties aligned with the mission of the Horatio Alger Association
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required (Education, Social Sciences, Student Affairs, or related field preferred)
- 1–2 years of experience in student services, academic advising, scholarship programs, or post‑secondary support is preferred
- Strong knowledge of post‑secondary education systems, financial aid, and student success practices
- Excellent organization, time‑management, documentation, and communication skills
- Experience working with databases, CRM systems, and reporting tools (Salesforce an asset)
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a remote team environment
- Comfortable engaging with students, families, educators, and community partners from diverse backgrounds
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle considered an asset
