Safehaven is a not-for-profit organization that has provided residential, respite, and transitional care to children and adults with medical complexities and disabilities for over 35 years. Safehaven is committed to creating inclusive opportunities for its clients, advocating for seamless transitions of care from childhood through adulthood, and building a more inclusive world. With 24/7 medical care, multi-sensory therapies, and recreational activities, Safehaven has seen clients overcome incredible challenges.

Safehaven is constantly striving to better serve its clients and the communities that need its services most. Alongside the expansion of its clinical and residential services, the organization is advancing a once-in-a-generation redevelopment project that will create Canada's first integrated housing and medical complexity hub, bringing together specialized care, transitional services, supportive housing, and community-based programming within a single purpose-built environment. This landmark initiative reflects Safehaven's commitment to innovation, expanded capacity, and improved outcomes for clients and families.

Against this backdrop of continued impact, Safehaven is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as its inaugural Vice President, Client Care and Operations. This newly created executive role will shape the future of care and operations, helping create a more inclusive world.

Reporting to the President and CEO, Susan Bisaillon, the Vice President drives operational excellence across both clinical and administrative functions, with accountability spanning finance, human resources, information technology, strategy and system innovation, purchasing and materials management, and facilities. The Vice President advances Safehaven’s strategic priorities by strengthening organizational performance, accountability, and service delivery across all sites.

As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President ensures the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of high-quality clinical care, while advancing regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, business continuity, and organizational resilience. Working in close partnership with the senior leadership team, the Vice President aligns clinical and administrative functions around shared goals, champions service excellence and continuous improvement, and enables integrated, innovative, and technology-enabled approaches to care, supported by strong data governance and responsible technology adoption. The Vice President works in concert with the CFO and finance leads to advance financial stewardship and align financial and operational priorities.

The Vice President builds meaningful relationships with clients, families, staff, physicians, community and primary care partners, government representatives, and sector leaders, and supports major capital and development initiatives in collaboration with the appropriate leaders. The Vice President also champions equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism as integral to organizational strategy, decision-making, workplace culture, and service delivery.

As the ideal candidate, you bring at least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a complex, multi-site healthcare, developmental services, community-based, or related not-for-profit organization, including at least five years in a clinical leadership role with accountability for multiple programs and interprofessional teams. You combine clinical credibility with financial acumen, sound judgment, and a record of guiding change. Experience managing non-clinical support functions is highly desirable. You are known for developing and operationalizing strategy, leading organizational growth, and implementing innovative models of care while maintaining operational stability and excellence. You hold a Master’s degree in a related field; a regulated health professional background is an asset. You also bring experience leading in a unionized environment, with exposure to workforce planning and labour relations.

An engaging communicator and relationship builder, you inspire confidence through integrity, humility, and accountability. Your collaborative leadership develops high-performing interdisciplinary teams, supports the contributions of all health professionals, and creates an environment where people feel respected and heard. Resilient, forward-thinking, and deeply motivated by positively impacting the lives of others, you believe in Safehaven’s vision. You can cultivate trusted relationships with staff, physicians, clients, families, community partners, government, and sector partners. You are also comfortable engaging Boards, government funders, regulatory bodies, and system partners in support of organizational and system-level priorities. You bring a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism, as well as collaboration, service excellence, and the values that underpin Safehaven.
