Unpaid Volunteer Position

Join the fun and impact lives with the Start2Finish Running & Reading Club—a unique after-school program that promotes literacy, healthy active living, and play for children aged 6–13 (Grades 1–6).

Works with:
- Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager (Direct report and supervisor)
- Community Ambassador (Direct report and supervisor; where applicable)
- Program Support Administrator (Support)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Program Planning and Implementation:
- Curriculum Integrity: Support the volunteer team in implementing the Start2Finish
curriculum that aligns with the goals of the program, including fitness routines and literacy activities to program integrity.
- Working with the volunteer team manage the program’s snack budget and program
equipment/supplies ensuring efficient use of resources and funds.

2. Leadership and Supervision:
- Supervise Volunteers: Supervise volunteers, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Assign Roles: Assign specific roles and responsibilities to volunteers to ensure effective program delivery.
- Build Relationships: Develop positive relationships with students to create a supportive and motivating environment.

3. Program Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Monitor Attendance: Keep accurate records of student attendance and participation.
- Assess Outcomes: Work with the volunteer team to regularly assess the effectiveness of the program through evaluations and feedback from students and other volunteers through tools provided by headoffice.
- Implement Changes: Make necessary adjustments to the program based on feedback and evaluation results.


4. Communication and Coordination:
- Liaise with Staff: Coordinate with head office staff and other program leaders/community ambassadors to align activities and share information.
- Update Volunteers: Keep volunteers informed about schedules, changes, and important updates.


5. Safety and Compliance:
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks during activities.
- Adhere to Protocols: Ensure all safety protocols and guidelines are followed to provide a safe environment for students.
- Maintain Records: Keep accurate records of incidents, attendance, and other important information.

Qualifications
- Previous Experience Working with Children
- Strong Leadership Abilities: Capable of leading and motivating a team of volunteers and engaging with students effectively.
- Team Management: Proven ability to supervise and support volunteers.
- Excellent Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, volunteers, and school staff.
- Organizational skills: To manage schedules, resources, and program logistics.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
- Empathy and Patience
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and needs within the program.

- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address any challenges that arise.
- Commitment: Dedication to the Program’s Goals: A commitment to the mission and vision of the Running & Reading Club.
- Dependability: Reliable and consistent in attendance and performance.

Orientation & Training
Orientation about Start2Finish and Club Director leadership training provided by head office or regional Master Trainer.

Time Commitment Required
- 4 hours a week
- 2 hours preparation and administration
- 2.5 hours during the in-person program sessions
- Commitment to the entire program for one year, option to return the following year (October to May)
