JOB SUMMARY
The Resource Specialist is responsible for developing compelling and relevant resources for the Rick Hansen Foundation School Program (RHFSP) with the ultimate goal of engaging children and youth in disability inclusion and accessibility. This position includes research, ideation, development, K-12 provincial curriculum alignment, delivery and improvement.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Resource Specialist reports to the Manager, RHFSP and works closely with the RHFSP team, the Marketing Communications team and external stakeholders.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Content Development and Review
- Works with colleagues and external stakeholders to review existing program resources and content offering in all formats to ensure a top quality and engaging program offering;
- Recommends and implements the improvement and/or enhancement of copy, images and graphical representations;
- Identifies gaps in content, makes recommendations, and leads the development of new age-appropriate and curriculum aligned content. Includes activities, lesson plans and themes, ambassador presentations, webinars, training, and workshops;
- Recommends the appropriate media and delivery methods for content;
- Ensures a cyclical content development and review process is in place;
- Understands program audiences and shares insights with the program team;
- Obtains, evaluates and incorporates feedback from a variety of sources to improve existing and develop new program content offerings, including from focus groups, research interviews, committees, pilot projects and desktop research; and
- Manages and organizes content on SharePoint.
- Ensures program content is accessible and available in all official languages including French and ASL/LSQ.
Organizational Relationships
- Works with the Marketing Communications team on resource/content promotion, key messaging, development of bilingual accessible resources, and accessibility of up-to-date program related content on www.rickhansen.com;
- Works with the Marketing Communications team to edit existing resources and develop new resources in various formats such as videos, PDFs, interactive resources, and presentation templates as required;
- Works with Resource Development team to ensure accurate supporter recognition on program resources and content;
- Provides orientation, training, and speaker briefings to RHF Ambassadors on new presentations and bespoke speaker engagements; and
- Works with the National Outreach Specialist to plan market research, create survey instruments and solicit feedback from RHFSP target markets and champions.
External Relationship Management
- Manages contractors and student teachers to update existing resources and develop new resources;
- Collaborates with partner organizations to create content for joint programming;
- Meets with partners to engage and learn about new resource opportunities, as required; and
- Supports RHFSP team in identifying opportunities and secures new channels for delivering resources to engage youth.
Performs other related duties in keeping with the purpose and accountabilities of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS
An equivalent combination of education, experience and skills/behaviours will be considered.
Education: University degree plus experience developing curriculum aligned educational resources and content to support educators and youth, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification/Designations: None.
Experience/Knowledge:
- 3 to 5 years of related experience;
- Demonstrated experience and proven ability to engage audiences with content;
- Experience preparing, coordinating and conducting presentations;
- Experience as an educator or educational administrator is an asset;
- Knowledge of Canadian provincial and territorial K-12 curricula, an asset;
- Experience in accessible communications is an asset;
- Computer skills required including proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Experience with Copilot an asset.
- Fluency in French, oral and written, an asset;
- Non-profit experience an asset; and
- Awareness and sensitivity of issues relating to issues affecting people with disabilities and/or youth is an asset.
