Position Overview:
We are a national research-based nonprofit organization; our operations are remote in Canada, and we are actively working on collaborations with researchers internationally. Social policy researchers conduct research, develop policy, and implement, or administer programs in areas such as human rights, home economics, immigration, corrections, housing, labour, family services, law enforcement, racism, discrimination, foreign aid, and international development. The primary responsibilities of the social policy researcher would be to utilize research methods to assist in writing evidence-based articles or informal blog posts that emphasize on social development. They will report directly to the executive director.
- Conduct primary and secondary research to investigate on social justice issues and report their findings. Develop social programs and policies, social legislation, or proposals based on the demographic, social, and economic research, analysis, and evaluation of pilot projects
- Depending on your qualifications and interests, you will be able to create a pilot proposed research project and case studies for your work or educational purposes. We encourage you to collect research data from the internet or collaborate with other organizations to support your findings.
- Develop questionnaires, coordinate and conduct surveys, analyze data, and compile and interpret statistics on social issues and policy areas. Support project research as needed.
Skills:
- Being able to ensure successful project completion from beginning to end as an independent social researcher. Demonstrated ability to organize, interpret, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data utilizing verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office and technology for email communication, working on research projects, receiving and incorporating editor’s feedback, and monthly team check-in calls.
- Monitoring work on a monthly basis, taking constructive feedback in stride, being able to perform critical analysis of the selected theme, and reflecting on a social issue from an intersectional lens. Excellent time management, organization, decision-making, conflict resolution, communication skills, and attention to detail in approaching a task with a creative and growth mindset.
Availability
- 3 to 5 hours on a monthly basis.
- Remote, part-time volunteer position.
- Available for monthly update team calls.
