Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Meals on Wheels, the Relief Driver, “G” Class will be responsible for the safe transportation of Agency clients and volunteers according to Ontario Regulations.
The Driver is required to perform his/her duties in a manner consistent with Dixon Hall’s Mission, Vision and Values, ensure safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Load up van with meals on wheels bags to take to food source.
  • Pick up food from St. Michael’s Hospital “loading dock area” or other food source locations as required.
  • Unload the meals on wheels bags from the van.
  • Deliver multiple meals on wheels routes.
  • Provide support and direction to volunteers during meals on wheels delivery.
  • Re-deliver meals to clients.
  • Drive clients from their homes to designated drop off points and back to their homes as required.
  • Assist clients in and out of vehicle when necessary.
  • Ensure that clients fasten their seatbelts and assist clients when necessary.
  • Report all concerns and problems regarding client's well being.
  • Complete Vehicle Check-List form on a daily basis.
  • Ensure that assigned vehicles are properly parked, cleaned and fuelled at the end of each shift.
  • Adhere to agency policies and procedures at all times.
  • Report to supervisor all vehicle maintenance problems in a timely fashion.
  • Operate agency vehicles in a safe manner, including circle checks prior to departing work site at start of shift, and upon return to site at end of shift.
  • Work collaboratively with the department and Manager and other Dixon Hall staff and volunteers.
  • Actively participate in department and agency meetings and events
  • Work under the guidance of the agency and program policies and procedures, including the Mission, Vision and Values of Dixon Hall
  • Meet regularly with manager to discuss individual, team and program effectiveness
  • Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as assigned, within the purview of the job description.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class G driver’s license.
  • Personal Driver’s Insurance.
  • Must be 25 years of age or older.
  • Clean and recent driver’s abstract.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and part of team.
  • Knowledge of downtown city streets.
  • Sensitive to the needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records check is required.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
