Sherbourne Health strives every day to meet the needs of the people and the diverse communities we serve. Together in partnership with individuals and families, health care providers, community groups and companies, we work to develop impactful programs and create new, dynamic services to keep our communities healthy and living well.

Situated in the heart of Toronto’s downtown east, the Sherbourne Health has been providing essential primary care and chronic disease management, mental health services, health promotion and education, and outreach and social support for 20 years. Our doors are open to everyone, with a focus on clients who are experiencing homelessness or under-housed, members of the 2SLGBTQ community, and newcomers to Canada.

We are seeking volunteers who are committed to our Vision, Mission, and Values for the following positions on Sherbourne Health’s Board of Directors:

  • Directors who exercise fiduciary responsibility to the organization in overseeing Sherbourne Health’s strategy, objectives, and operating activities; and
  • Non-Director Committee Members who apply their relevant knowledge and lived experience to assist Directors with the work of the Board’s committees. Committee Members are voting members at Committee meetings but do not attend Board meetings.

Candidates should have a passion for good governance, organizational development, health equity, and community advocacy. We recruit for a broad range of skills, and all are encouraged to apply, however, we are particularly seeking candidates with any of the following skills:

  • Professional financial management/oversight experience and/or training (Accounting/CPA designation an asset)
  • Experience with and commitment to anti-oppression, equity, diversity, and inclusion, which may have been developed through your own lived/living experience.
  • Professional experience in law, healthcare clinical or policy experience, or education
  • Experience in fundraising/fund development

Sherbourne is dedicated to renewing a Board that reflects the diversity of our clients and the communities we serve. This includes diversity in spoken languages, culture, race, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, ability, and socio-economic status. Individuals who are over 60, members of an Indigenous community, people of colour/racialized, lived experience with homelessness (or under-housed), members of the trans community, and people with disabilities will further strengthen the diversity of our Board of Directors and are encouraged to apply.

How to apply

In your submission, please answer the question: “how do you embody the values of Sherbourne Health in your daily life, professional work and/or community involvement?” The purpose of this question is to understand how your experiences (lived/living and/or professional) will support Sherbourne Health’s mission and strategic priorities. You can read about the values here: https://sherbourne.on.ca/about/vision-mission-values/

Submission can be made via email, in writing (maximum 2 pages), or by video (video submissions must be under 5 minutes) and must be sent by April 10, 2026, to:
