Position Title: Recreation Bingo Caller Assistant (Backup)
Volunteer Type: In person
Location: 3333 Finch Ave East – Recreation Room
Volunteer Hours: Thursdays 1pm-3pm 2 hrs./wk.
Volunteers Needed: 1
Reports to: Active Living Coordinator
Position Summary:
Assist with setting up Bingo games, providing support to clients as needed. Act as a backup Bingo caller when required and assist with other tasks as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Arrive early to assist with set up of activity and to welcome participants.
- Lead the program whenever the regular Bingo volunteer isn’t available (as a Bingo caller).
- Help to set up Bingo machine and materials properly before starting this program.
- Assist if any client has any concerns and report to supervisor accordingly.
- Ensure the safety of clients by fulfilling the responsibilities and safety procedures.
- Notify supervisor regarding any concern with condition of equipment and supplies.
- After the program, assistance with cleanup of program area and equipment is put away.
- Report any issue concerned with the program to the team leader.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Fun loving, outgoing personality.
- Willingness and ability to take directions from staff.
- Comfort with and knowledge of recreation program registration process.
- Respect, patience and understanding of frail seniors.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure the safety of clients by fulfilling the responsibilities and safety procedures always outlined by the volunteer handbook and/or supervisor.
Working Environment:
- Primarily office environment, common facility areas (indoor /outdoor).
- Sitting in front of the computer terminal for long periods of time .
- May have frequent work interruptions.
Boundaries/Limitations:
- Do not open or try to fix equipment and office machinery.
- Do not lift a person.
Orientation/Training:
- Volunteer Services will conduct orientation on organization’s policies and procedures, including COVID-19 measures.
- IPAC Mandatory training for onsite positions.
- Organizational Training for new volunteers.
- Food Handler’s certification would be a great asset to have.
Supervision and Evaluation:
- Supervision and support will be provided by the Active Living Coordinator.

Other:
- Vulnerable Service Sector Check screening is mandatory.
- Proof of full vaccination or Medical Exemption Certificate is mandatory.
