
Receptionist Volunteer
Position Purpose:
Be a vibrant part of the Food Banks Mississauga team by becoming the welcoming face to our valued food bank users, visitors, and volunteers. Not only will you play a pivotal role in ensuring a positive experience for all, but you'll also be at the heart of our dynamic administrative operations. Time Commitment:
At least one predetermined shift per week, with opportunities to fill in as needed.
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 1:00-2:00
- Thursdays 10:00-1:00
- Friday 9:00-1:00
Location:
On-site at the Food Banks Mississauga Office, 4544 Eastgate Parkway, Mississauga.

Responsibilities:
- Embrace the opportunity to be the face of our organization, welcoming clients, visitors, and volunteers with a warm and professional demeanour.
- Navigate the dynamic world of mail management, ensuring all incoming and outgoing mail is handled efficiently.
- Serve as the gateway to our Volunteer Lounge, offering assistance with check-ins when needed, and maintaining a clean and well-stocked environment with water, coffee, and some sweet treats for our volunteers.
- Take charge of our communication hub by handling incoming calls and emails, ensuring they are promptly directed to the right destination.
- Dive into a variety of general administrative tasks, from preparing mailings, to managing survey data, performing data entry, monitoring inventory, and maintaining the supplies in our bustling volunteer lounge.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
- Proficiency in multiple languages is a valuable asset but not required.
- Outstanding customer service abilities, enabling effective collaboration with diverse individuals.
- Fundamental numeracy and literacy skills, along with the capacity to follow established procedures.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a strong grasp of time management and organizational competencies.
- Demonstrated capability to work independently with proficiency in typing and computer usage.
- A deep commitment to respecting the privacy and dignity of those in need of emergency food assistance.
- Experience in working with vulnerable populations is considered a valuable asset.
Support Provided
- Ongoing, hands-on training and support from staff and other volunteers.
- Mandatory in-person training sessions before commencing role.
- Check-ins to provide feedback and facilitate discussion.
