This is a virtual position, however, applicants must be located in Ottawa. The head office of CHHA is located in Ottawa.

The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA) creates accessible, connected, and equitable communities for Canadians with hearing loss.

We are seeking a highly skilled receptionist / administrator who is responsible for answering the telephone calls incoming to CHHA National, providing excellent customer service, and supporting administrative tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of CHHA.

Full and comprehensive training will be provided.


First Point of Contact

Answer incoming telephone calls greeting callers in a friendly and warm manner, providing them with information about CHHA and our 21 networks across Canada and directing them to the appropriate resources/staff.


Phone & Email Management

Answer and field all incoming phone calls (back-up only – administrator is our first point of contact), check voicemails, and respond to emails promptly, ensuring effective communication.


Administrative Support

Perform various clerical tasks: membership responses, assist in processing of donations, respond to general inquiries, assist the CHHA administrator as required.


Community/National Knowledge:

Full orientation will be provided on our 21 Canadian Networks, resources available, key contacts, programs and services, to provide accurate information and referrals for our members and hard of hearing community.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with CHHA members, hard of hearing community, staff, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage tasks efficiently and to ensure timely and responsive communication.
  • Computer Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office software and will receive training on our automated membership system.
  • Customer Service Orientation: A friendly and professional demeanour, with the ability to handle inquiries and resolve issues effectively.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a receptionist or administrative role, preferably within a non-profit organization is preferred.
  • Bilingualism is a strong asset.
  • Basic knowledge of the hard of hearing community is a strong asset

Our receptionist plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming atmosphere and supporting the organization’s mission through their daily tasks.
