Breakthrough T1D is adding to our development team and we’re searching for an experienced professional for the role of Prospect Research Officer.

If you’re an analytical, proactive, and curious fundraising professional who would like to support donor prospecting across the country, please read on to see if this is the right fit for you.

Here’s what your primary responsibilities would be:

  • Proactively identify new prospects and rate prospects using internal information and leads, data mining, demographic searches etc.
  • Using a broad spectrum of resources, research, organize, and evaluate a prospect’s financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests, and connection to the organization
  • Monitor and communicate news, events and issues that impact the Foundation’s fundraising strategies and the philanthropic environment
  • Write prospect briefings to be used by fundraising staff
  • Conduct annual portfolio reviews with members of the Development team, along with quarterly opportunity reviews
  • Track all constituent relationship activity, profiles, research information and account management in the organization's CRM
  • Lead the prospect clearance process

Here’s what we’re looking for:

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • 3–5 years of prospect or donor research experience, preferably in a not-for-profit environment
  • Hands-on experience with prospect research tools and databases (e.g., Kindsight, CharityCAN, Grant Connect, SEDAR, SEDI)
  • Advanced research and data-mining skills using multiple sources
  • Excellent written communication skills for producing briefs, profiles, and reports
  • Strong analytical ability to evaluate financial capacity, affinity, and willingness to give

Working Style

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment to develop cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to investigate, analyze, and synthesize large quantities of data into a user-friendly and concise format for fundraising staff
  • Naturally curious to surface leads, opportunities, ideas, forge connections and identify trends
  • Self-starter, capable of identifying the need for and recommending action

Other position requirements to note:

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a deadline driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, problem solving and planning skills are required
  • Proven discretion with valuable and personal donor details that are often confidential
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office

The salary range for this role is anticipated to be $67,000 - $73,000 annually, commensurate with skills and experience level of the selected candidate.

Location Preference: Anywhere within Canada
