Since 1980, TFO Canada’s internationally experienced project staff and sectoral experts have been providing trade promotion and capacity building services to tens of thousands of Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Trade Support Institutions (TSIs)/Trade Promotion Organizations (TPOs) from Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Project Officer – Communications and Trade Support Services

TFO Canada is currently recruiting a Project Officer – Communications and Trade Support Services based in Ottawa. The Project Officer is responsible for contributing to the promotion Trade Support Services (TSS) includes a comprehensive web-based platform (www.tfocanada.ca) featuring in-depth trade publications on the Canadian import market, country profiles, product offers, calendar of events, newsletters, an exporting guide and our daily news archive.

Other information services include regular e-publications (e-blasts and e-newsletters) and webinars for exporters and importers, presentations on the Canadian import market and TFO Canada’s services and special research publications on opportunities in the Canadian market for specific countries or for individual product/services categories. The content for TFO Canada - TSS is generated internally and from external sources and are delivered in English, French and Spanish.

This position reports to the Project Manager – Communications and Trade Support Services

Job responsibilities:

  • Researching/updating TFO Canada’s existing Canadian Market Information Papers and similar publications
  • Researching and generating/editing content for TFO Canada’s quarterly e- newsletters for developing country exporters and trade support institutions, and its monthly e-bulletins for Canadian importers
  • Creation of promotional materials (such as e-blasts, posters, events, etc.)
  • Researching and editing/updating news, events and other content on the www.tfocanada.ca website
  • Developing content for, and maintaining TFO Canada’s presence on, social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.
  • Researching and writing of periodic “success stories” of recent TFO Canada projects for inclusion in the organization’s publications and website
  • Supporting the delivery of periodic webinars or training delivered by TFO Canada Staff
  • Management of TFO Canada’s email management system, and use of it to publish/deliver TFO Canada’s various e-newsletters and other e- communications
  • Participation in and support of regular Trade Information Services team meetings/ communications
  • Layout of TFO Canada publications (e.g. quarterly exporter newsletter) and some (in-house designed) communications tools
  • Management of TFO Canada’s beneficiaries database (Exporters, Trade Support Institutions, and Buyers) and CRM system

Qualifications:

  • BA in business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field
  • At least two years of communications-related experience generating and editing content, preferably with an international business orientation
  • Strong experience working with website back-end platforms
  • Experience working with a database
  • Previous research and analysis experience in international trade or a related subject
  • Knowledge of the Canadian import market and sources of information an asset
  • Experience implementing and scaling a social media strategy, including managing social media accounts (X, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Experience in graphic design is considered an asset
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to details
  • Excellent research, writing, editing and copy-editing in English and French
  • Excellent computer application skills, particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and desktop publisher software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator etc. plus familiarity with website content management systems
  • Ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets in Microsoft Excel
  • Must be a self-starter, problem solver, able to work independently and contribute effectively to the team
  • Fully bilingual: English - French

Employment Duration

  • This is a 4-year term position

Compensation:

TFO Canada offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience and the norms of the international development NGO sector. As such the salary range is $52,000.00 - $65,000.00

Work Location:

Work at TFO Canada includes a hybrid work model; therefore, this role will be a combination of virtual and on-site work. Our office is located in downtown Ottawa. The successful candidate will need to live within the greater Ottawa-Gatineau area in Canada and be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada.
