Programme & Event Manager
ROLE OVERVIEW
PROGRAMME AND EVENT MANAGER
About Us
The Volunteer Well is a Canadian non-profit focused on making support easier to give and easier to find. We connect people who want to help with individuals and communities who need support, creating spaces where generosity, dignity, and human connection can thrive. You’ll also have opportunities to build experience in areas such as digital marketing, corporate relations, finance, program coordination, and operations, depending on your interests and availability.
Our work centres on reducing barriers to volunteering and access to resources, particularly for those facing systemic challenges such as women, seniors, newcomers, low-income individuals, and other marginalized groups. Through community-driven programs, events, partnerships, and advocacy, we help people feel seen, supported, and connected.
At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief: when people are given the opportunity to share their skills, time, and care, communities grow stronger — and everyone benefits.
What You’ll Be Doing
People in every community want to help — and people in every community need support — but too often they never find each other.
As a Programme & Event Manager with The Volunteer Well, you help close that gap. You bring people together, create spaces for connection, and make it easier for support, resources, and opportunities to reach those who need them most.
This role exists so communities don’t feel disconnected, volunteers don’t feel unused, and people seeking support aren’t left navigating things alone.
You will be the local face of The Volunteer Well in your city or region.
You help people discover the Generosity Hub, bring community members together, and create welcoming spaces where volunteering and support feel accessible and human. The Generosity Hub is Volunteer-Well’s central platform for coordinating generosity-led volunteering initiatives, connecting volunteers, partners, and communities to deliver structured wellbeing-focused support and measurable social impact.
You’ll lead one in-person community event each month and build relationships with local businesses, nonprofits, institutions, and community partners — all while working within a flexible, virtual-first organization. You will play a central role in fostering partnerships, increasing user acquisition, and sustaining long-term community impact. A core aspect of this role involves promoting our platform, Generosity Hub, as the go-to resource for direct-source volunteering in the region.
This is a remote, part-time position that requires in-person presence for local activities. This role may involve occasional travel within the city, as well as evening and weekend work for events.
Key Responsibilities
Brand Presence, Platform Promotion & Engagement
- Introduce the Volunteer Well and the Generosity Hub to people in your community through conversations, outreach, short demos, and local engagement.
- Support new volunteers and people seeking support as they join and use the platform, helping them feel welcomed and confident.
- Collect and share success stories and impact narratives that reflect local experiences.
- Represent and advocate for The Volunteer Well in neighbourhood spaces, public conversations, and community events.
Building Community Partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with local nonprofits, small businesses, service clubs, and community leaders.
- Explore and support sponsorships or co-promotional opportunities with values-aligned organizations.
- Help develop collaborations with larger nonprofits, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and public-sector partners.
- Represent The Volunteer Well in local meetings, town halls, and community discussions to increase awareness and trust.
Community Event Leadership
- Plan and host one in-person community event each month that brings people together and introduces The Volunteer Well.
- Work with local venues, partner organizations, and volunteers to co-host and support events.
- Gather community feedback to ensure events reflect local needs, interests, and values.
- Encourage ongoing participation and word-of-mouth referrals within the community.
Coordination & Reporting
- Share monthly updates with the central team on community engagement, partnerships, and events.
- Contribute ideas, feedback, and learnings to help shape best practices across chapters.
- Take part in virtual check-ins and planning sessions with other Programme & Event Managers and the national team.
- Help track and share impact in a way that supports learning and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Grow & Gain:
After 6 months in this role, you’ll feel more confident:
- Planning and Hosting community-based events.
- Building meaningful relationships with local organisations and businesses.
- Speaking about social impact and community needs.
- Turning ideas into real, on the ground action.
Your Professional Development & Experience:
- Practical, hands-on experience within a community-focused non-profit.
- Professional references based on meaningful involvement.
- A clearer understanding of your strengths and interests in community and non-profit work.
- You’ll make a tangible difference in your community while contributing to a cause that promotes inclusivity, connectivity, and support for those who need it most.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience in community work, events, or outreach is helpful — but not required. If you care about people, feel comfortable talking with others, and are open to learning, we’ll support you in the rest.
- You enjoy building relationships and communicating with people from different backgrounds.
- You feel comfortable facilitating events, conducting outreach, and navigating local networks.
- You are familiar with your city/region’s social services, nonprofit landscape, and community groups.
- You’re self-motivated, reliable, and aligned with our values of inclusion, compassion, and shared responsibility.
We don’t expect you to know everything on day one. You’ll receive guidance, resources, and ongoing support as you grow into the role.
